Synopsis

The cult classic Night Head series returns with an all new story set in the year 2041. Naota and Naoya are two brothers with powerful psychic abilities who are persecuted by the world and on the run. They are being chased by brothers Yuya and Takuya who are both members of the National Security Force’s Special Task Force and are tasked with apprehending Naota and Naoya. Two pairs of brothers who are at the mercy of each other but must never meet - a new thrilling story set in the world of Night Head begins!

Background

The Night Head series began as a live-action drama that aired from 1992 to 1993 and spanned 21 episodes. A special 1-hour episode called Night Head: The Other Side aired in December 1992 and served as a side story. The TV drama was followed up by a theatrical release titled Night Head the Movie which was released in November 1994 and served as a conclusion to the TV drama.

The TV drama was adapted into several light novels and manga including Night Head, Night Head: The Trial, Night Nead: Deep Forest, and Night Head: Yuhatsusha, as well as a PlayStation game titled Night Head: The Labyrinth. A TV anime based on the TV drama titled Night Head Genesis with production by BEE MEDIA aired between July and December 2006 and spanned 24 episodes.

Night Head 2041 is the newest TV anime adaptation in the series and is being produced by Shirogumi Inc. Staff includes Takamitsu Hirakawa (Etotama, Revisions) as director, with George Iida (Dragon Head, Sci-Fi Harry, Tokyo Babylon 1999), the director of the original TV drama, handling series composition and scripts, Kenichiro Tomiyasu (Human Lost, Resident Evil: Damnation) handling concept art, and Yutaka Yamada (Majestic Prince, Tokyo Ghoul, Vinland Saga) composing the music. The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2021 during Fuji TV’s +Ultra programming block

Characters

Yuya Kuroki (Voiced by: Kensho Ono)
A member of the National Security Force’s Special Task Force along with his brother Takuya. He doesn’t show his emotions very often but does show his true feelings to his brother. Together with Takuya, he is tasked with tracking down Naoto and Naoya.

Takuya Kuroki (Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai)
A member of the National Security Force’s Special Task Force along with his brother Yuya. He has a good sense of humor and an amiable personality that makes him hard to hate. He gets annoyed when Yuya messes with him. Together with Yuya, he is tasked with tracking down Naoto and Naoya.

Naoto Kirihara (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)
A powerful psychic who was sent to a research facility together with his brother Naoya when his powers awakened at an early age. Although he is usually calm, he sometimes becomes emotional when it comes to his younger brother, who is his only living relative.

Naoya Kirihara (Voiced by: Nobunaga Shimazaki)
A kind-hearted young man with psychic powers. He puts his brother Naoto and the people around him before himself, even when it results in him getting hurt. No matter the situation, he always tries to help those in a weaker position.
