Synopsis
It has been 800 years since the demons were sealed away by the powerful deities known as Idaten, and that fateful battle has become a distant myth. Now, the world is enjoying a generation of peace, and modern Idaten live peaceful lives and have no fighting experience. However, the demons have been unsealed and resurrected from their long slumber. A three-way battle royale between gods, demons, and humans is about to begin!
Background
Idaten Deities in the Peaceful Generation is a manga series written by Amahara that was originally published on the website Shintosha before Amahara’s commercial debut. The series stopped being updated in 2016, but was later picked up by Hakusensha with Coolkyousinnjya becoming the series’ artist and has been serialized in Hakusensha’s Young Animal seinen manga magazine since August 2018. As of August 2020, it has been published in three collected tankobon volumes. In May 2021, the series began being simultaneously serialized on Hakusensha’s manga app Manga Park.
An anime adaptation was announced in August 2020. The anime is being produced by MAPPA and features Seimei Kidokoro as director with Hiroshi Seko handling series composition and scripts and Nao Ootsu credited as character designer and chief animation director. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 22, 2021 during Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block. It will be available to stream in North America through Crunchyroll.
Characters
Hayato (Voiced by: Romi Park)
A brainy boy with a single-minded focus on training and an insatiable passion for improving his strength as a fighter. He is one of the Idaten training under Rin, and is the only one who hasn’t run away from her harsh discipline.
Easley (Voiced by: Megumi Ogata)
An intelligent boy who loves reading and research more than anything else. He has a history of running away from Rin’s harsh training due to not being able to cut it. He has a calm smile and an honest air about him. However, he gradually begins showing a different side during the fight against the demons.
Paula (Voiced by: Yui Horie)
A kind-hearted and sensible Idaten who can talk to birds. Sandwiched between Hayato, who is quick to rush in, and Easley, who is quick to show his true colors, she is a gentle mood maker who always makes them feel at ease.
Rin (Voiced by: Akemi Okamura)
Though she looks like a young girl, she is over 800 years old and has been training ever since being the sole survivor of a battle against demons 800 years ago. She is the most powerful Idaten on Earth. All of the Idaten save for Hayato have been unable to endure her relentless and brutal training, which includes broken bones and bloodshed. As his master, she spends her days working hard to train Hayato.
World
Idaten
Deities born from the collective thoughts of the creatures living on Earth. They do not need to breathe or eat and can survive even when their internal organs are crushed. They are human in appearance but also have a somewhat detached view of the world and don’t care about the well-being of its inhabitants unless they are threatened with extinction. They also don’t care about collateral damage and even go so far as almost destroying a country in order to eradicate the demons.
Demons
Destructive creatures that appeared 800 years ago and have an insatiable desire for destruction and bloodshed. They nearly destroyed the earth and wiped out humanity, but were defeated and sealed away by the Idaten. A very small number of them were preserved in ice in the polar regions, and these were recovered and weaponized by the Zobru Empire into artificially enhanced soldiers called “C (Cheat) Soldiers.” These soldiers are a fusion of demons and humans, possessing both the demons’ ferociousness and a human intellect. However, their abilities are highly variable depending on the degree of fusion. They are usually humanoid in appearance but their bodies can be transformed into weapons. Due to having human brains, they are vulnerable to drugs that affect the brain. Though intelligent, they have low fertility and even after 100 years of multiplying there are less than 400 of them in the world.
Humans
The human race was faced with extinction 800 years ago by the demons and was saved after the Idaten sealed them away. There are currently three main nations that struggle for power: the military nation of the Zobru Empire, the religious nation of Sarabael, and the liberal nation of Hotaena.
