Synopsis

In the winter of his third year of junior high school, Minato Kiyomizu wins the national water polo championship, but on his way home he gets into an accident and falls into a coma. When he finally wakes up 203 days later, he finds that he has lost all of his memories from his junior high days. Due to the accident, he stops playing water polo and enrolls at Yamanami High School with a new outlook. However, a promise leads him to begin playing water polo again with the friends he makes there, but many difficulties lie ahead for the fledgling team...

Background

RE-MAIN is an upcoming original TV anime series created by Masafumi Nishida (of Tiger and Bunny fame), Bandai Namco Arts, and animation studio MAPPA. Nishida also serves as the anime’s chief director and is also in charge of series composition and scripts. Other staff members include Kiyoshi Matsuda (Banana Fish, Kakegurui, Rozen Maiden) as director with Shiho Tanaka (Granblue Fantasy the Animation, Inazuma Eleven GO 2: Chrono Stone, Twittering Birds Never Fly: The Clouds Gather) handling character designs and Kana Utatane (Monster Girl Doctor) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Forget Me Not” by Enhypen, and the ending theme song is “Kowareta Sekai no Byoshin wa” by Shugo Nakamura. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 3, 2021 during TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation programming block.

Characters

Minato Kiyomizu (Voiced by: Yuto Uemura)
A former athlete who lost his memories of the three years of junior high school due to an accident and stopped playing water polo. After enrolling at Yamanami High School, he is roped into joining the water polo team by Eitaro and Jo.

Eitaro Oka (Voiced by: Kotaro Nishiyama)
Minato’s junior from junior high school. He knows about Minato’s past. Like Minato he enrolls at Yamanami High School.

Jo Jojima (Voiced by: Subaru Kimura)
The captain of Yamanami High School’s water polo team. He tries to get Minato to join the team.

Shugo Amihama (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
A member of Yamanami High School’s water polo team with a cool personality. He was a competitive swimmer in junior high school.

Takekazu Ejiri (Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa)
A member of Yamanami High School’s water polo team who is rowdy, hot-blooded, and quick to fight. He was a member of the baseball team in junior high.

Yutaka Babayaro Inomata (Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka)
A member of Yamanami High School’s water polo team with a gentle and kind personality. His father is Nigerian.

Yoshiharu Ushimado (Voiced by: Daisuke Hirose)
A member of Yamanami High School’s water polo team. He has a reticent personality and isn’t good at expressing himself.

Chinu Kawakubo (Voiced by: Lynn)
A famous water polo player who has been featured by the media. She knows of Minato’s past.

Riku Momosaki (Voiced by: Yuma Uchida)
A teammate of Minato’s from junior high school. He is the current ace of Shogakukan High School’s water polo team.

Keita Kakihana (Voiced by: Taku Yashiro)
A teammate of Minato’s from junior high school. He is an older brother type who looks out for his teammates.

Koki Toguchi (Voiced by: Shun Miyazato)
A teammate of Minato’s from junior high school. He is cheerful and is always smiling.

Akimitsu Bizen (Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa)
The coach of Shogakukan Junior High and High School water polo teams.

Takeshi Toyama (Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae)
A member of Rikka Academy’s water polo team.

Akihisa Fukui (Voiced by: Mahiro Takasugi)
The captain of Rikka Academy’s water polo team.

Norimichi Ishikawa (Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)
The assistant captain of Rikka Academy’s water polo team.
