Synopsis

High school student Akira Shiroyanagi, who loves games and Japanese sweets, is enjoying an ordinary morning when he is suddenly pulled into a battlefield by a mysterious girl who calls herself Mion. He and the other participants are told that they have been erased from their family register and are now involved in an experiment with each of them having gained special powers. With no other choice but to fight, Akira is determined to win the game using his newfound powers and destroy the organization responsible for turning his ordinary life upside down. Armed with exceptional brainpower and an unexpected ability, his new life on the battlefield begins!

Background

Battle in 5 Seconds After Meeting is a manga series written by Saizo Harawata and illustrated by Kashiwa Miyako that has been serialized on Shogakukan's MangaONE app and Ura Sunday website since August 2015. As of March 2021, it has been published in 16 collected tankobon volumes.

An anime adaptation was announced in November 2020. It is being jointly animated by SynergySP and Vega Entertainment and features Nobuyoshi Arai (Dorohedoro, The Laughing Salesman NEW, Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion the Animation) as director with Meigo Naito (Gundam Build Divers, Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians, Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector) serving as chief director. Other members of staff include Touko Machida (Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! 2) who is handling series composition and Ikuo Yamakado (In Search of the Lost Future, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Tiger & Bunny the Movie: The Beginning) and Tomokatsu Nagasaku (Fate/Grand Order: Moonlight/Lostroom, PriPri Chii-chan!!, Slap Up Party: Arad Senki) who are handling character designs. The anime’s opening theme song is “No Continue” by Akari Kito, and the ending theme song is “Makeibe Jikkyo Play” by the unit 15-sai to Seiko Omori. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 12, 2021 on Tokyo MX and BS11.

Characters

Akira Shiroyanagi (Voiced by: Ayumu Murase)
A 16-year-old high school student and the protagonist of the series. His ability is being able to use any ability that his opponent thinks he has.

Yuri Amagake (Voiced by: Aimi)
A 17-year-old high school student and the heroine of the series. Her ability is being able to increase her physical stats by a factor of five.

Mion (Voiced by: Mayumi Shintani)
One of the five Watchmen. She dresses like a magician and has a childish appearance, but she has a cunning personality. She has the ability to turn her hands into cannons.

Yan (Voiced by: Akari Kito)
A follower of Mion who dresses in a Chinese style. She has the ability to advance time on whatever she sees by 1,000 years.

Madoka Kirisaki (Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai)
A third-year high school student. She has the ability to turn tree branches into swords that can cut through anything.

Ringo Tatara (Voiced by: Miyuri Shimabukuro)
An 18 year old who is in her third year of high school. She is petite and wears glasses. She has the ability to copy an opponent’s ability at 1/10th the power.

Shin Kumagiri (Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura)
A 33-year-old professional wrestler. He has a large physique and long hair. His ability lets him become invincible for two seconds.
