Synopsis

Reiji Kirio lives a boring life as an office worker, that is until he is suddenly transported to another world! There, he realizes he has been given a skill called “Drug Creation,” and he soon uses his skill to rescue a seriously injured werewolf girl named Noella after coming across her in a forest. Although he’s disappointed that he wasn’t given a combat skill, he begins to make use of his newfound skills as a pharmacist making effective potions which quickly become popular. With the money he collects, he decides to open up a drugstore called Kirio Drug, and it just so happens that the abandoned building he chooses is home to a friendly ghost girl named Mina! So begins his new life of fulfilling the requests of his unusual customers while enjoying a slow life in a new world!

Background

Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist is a light novel series written by Kennoji and illustrated by Matsuuni that was serialized on the user-generated novel publishing site Shosetsuka no Naro from July 2016 to July 2020. It was acquired by Hifumi Shobo in 2018 and has been published under their Brave Novel imprint since. As of February 2021, five volumes have been released. The light novel has been licensed for English release in North America through Seven Seas Entertainment.

A manga adaptation illustrated by Eri Haruno has been serialized on Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma Plus website since December 2018. As of November 2020, it has been released in four tankobon volumes. It too has been licensed for English release in North America through Seven Seas Entertainment.

An anime adaptation was announced by Hifumi Shobo at Comiket 97 in December 2019. The series is being animated by EMT Squared and features Masafumi Sato (Denki-Gai, Idol Time PriPara, Saint October) as director with Hiroko Kanasugi (Cute High Earth Defense Club HAPPY KISS!, My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy, Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun) handling series composition and scripts, Etsuko Sumimoto (As Miss Beelzebub Likes, March Comes in Like a Lion, Yurikuma Arashi) credited as both character designer and chief animation director, and Tomoki Kikuya (The “Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat, Nisekoi - False Love, Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Kokoro Hayaru” by Akane Kumada, and the ending theme song is "Mainichi Kashimashi Pharmacy" by Risae Matsuda, Akane Kumada, and Jun Fukushima. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 7, 2021 on Tokyo MX and BS11.

Characters

Reiji Kirio (Voiced by: Jun Fukushima)
The series’ protagonist. He used to lead a boring life as an office worker stuck in a dead-end job until he is suddenly transported to another world and given a cheat skill called “Drug Creation” that allows him to create effective potions and other remedies that soon make him the talk of the town. He is soon able to save up enough money and opens his own drugstore called Kirio Drug.

Noella (Voiced by: Risae Matsuda)
A werewolf girl who is seriously injured by monsters and is on the verge of death when Reiji comes across her soon after arriving in the new world and uses his cheat skill to save her life. She becomes an employee at Kirio Drug.

Mina (Voiced by: Akane Kumada)
A friendly ghost girl living in the abandoned building that Reiji chooses as his new drugstore. She is unaware that she’s a ghost and will adamantly deny it whenever someone points it out.

Elaine (Voiced by: Satsumi Matsuda)
The daughter of a nobleman and one of the customers that frequent Reiji’s drugstore. She asks him for a medicine to attract people’s attention.

Annabel (Voiced by: Mariko Higashiuchi)
The leader of a mercenary group who usually defends the city against outside forces. She gets hooked on a potion made by Reiji.

Garou Ejiru (Voiced by: Fumiko Uchimura)
The demon lord of the demon world. He is usually very arrogant and has an overbearing side as a commander. He falls in love with Noella.
