Synopsis

The Kouka Revue is an all-female company that has captivated the hearts of people of all ages with their beautiful stage performances. Kouka Kageki High School is where the company’s talent is nurtured, and the 100th class has just been formed from those who were able to pass the high bar of the entrance exam. Among them is a naive country girl named Sarasa Watanabe, a former idol who dislikes men named Ai Narata, and a skilled dancer named Sawa Sugimoto who dreams of playing male roles. Together, these girls will fight for their dreams to wow audiences on the shining stage!

Background

Kageki Shoujo! began as a manga series by Kumiko Saiki that was serialized in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Jump Kai from 2012 to 2014 and later released in two tankobon volumes. A sequel manga titled Kageki Shoujo!! has been serialized in Hakusensha’s shojo manga magazine Melody since 2015 and has been published in 10 tankobon volumes. Both manga have been licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment.

An anime adaptation was announced in the December 2020 issue of Melody. It is being animated by PINE JAM and features Kazuhiro Yoneda as director with Tadashi Morishita handling series composition, Takahiro Kishida handling character designs, and Tsuneyoshi Saito composing the music. The opening theme song is "Hoshi no Orchestra" by saji. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 3, 2021 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, and BS11.

Characters

Sarasa Watanabe (Voiced by: Sayaka Senbongi)
A preparatory department student at Kouka Kageki High School. She is innocent and not afraid of anything. When she was a child, she was inspired by her grandmother to watch The Rose of Versailles by the Kouka Revue. She was accepted into the music academy in her third year of high school.

Ai Narata (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)
A preparatory department student at Kouka Kageki High School. She was a member of the national idol group JPX48, but her dislike of men caused her trouble and she was forced to graduate. She enrolls at Kouka in search of a world without men. She has attractive looks, but she doesn’t care much about Kouka itself. She was accepted into the academy in her first year of high school.

Sawa Sugimoto (Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka)
A preparatory department student at Kouka Kageki High School. She is a calm and reliable chairperson who passed the entrance exam at the top of her class. In fact, she is a huge fan of Kouka. She is a highly skilled ballet dancer but chooses the path of opera to be able to play male roles, which she loves. She was accepted into the academy in her first year of high school.

Kaoru Hoshino (Voiced by: Yo Taichi)
A preparatory department student at Kouka Kageki High School. She comes from a talented family, with her mother and grandmother having been actors in the Kouka Revue. She aspires to play male roles and passed the entrance exam at the last minute. She is very professional and hardworking, but is also strong-minded, which causes her to sometimes clash with others. She was accepted into the academy in her third year of high school.

Ayako Yamada (Voiced by: Rico Sasaki)
A preparatory department student at Kouka Kageki High School. She is timid and calm, and aspires to play daughter roles. She has dreamed of attending Kouka since she was a child and was accepted into the academy with help from her family. She lacks self-confidence and worries over the gap in ability between her and her classmates. She was accepted into the academy in her first year of high school.

Chika Sawada (Voiced by: Risae Matsuda)
A preparatory department student at Kouka Kageki High School. She is Chiaki’s twin sister and aspires to play daughter roles. She is always cheerful and reliable. She passed the entrance exam the previous year, but decided not to enroll because her sister didn’t pass. She was accepted into the academy in her first year of high school.

Chiaki Sawada (Voiced by: Satsumi Matsuda)
A preparatory department student at Kouka Kageki High School. She is Chika’s twin sister and aspires to play daughter roles. She is always cheerful and expresses her thoughts honestly. She is very close to Chika and feels guilty for holding her back a year by failing the entrance exam. She was accepted into the academy in her first year of high school.

Hijiri Nojima (Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa)
An honors student at Kouka Kageki High School. She is the vice chairwoman of the main department and is in charge of mentoring Ai. Despite her cute appearance, she has a dark side.

Risa Nakayama (Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu)
An honors student at Kouka Kageki High School. She is in charge of mentoring Sarasa. She has a frank personality and can be harsh, but she is kind at heart.

Mamoru Ando (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
An acting instructor at Kouka Kageki High School and Sarasa’s homeroom teacher. He is formerly a popular musical actor whose nickname is “Phantom.”

Taichi Narata (Voiced by: Kenji Nojima)
A ballet instructor at Kouka Kageki High School. He is Ai’s uncle and the only one who understands her.

Sei Satomi (Voiced by: Hiroki Nanami)
The next top male star of Kouka Revue’s winter troupe. He attracts women with his dark yandere performances.
