Scarlet Nexus

Synopsis

The year is 2020. Humanity is threatened by a strange life form called Others, which descends from the heavens. In order to defeat this threat, the government of New Himuka forms the Other Suppression Force. The OSF is a group of soldiers who fight using their exceptional supernatural abilities, which take different forms depending on the person and include psychokinesis, pyrokinesis, clairvoyance, teleportation, and more. Yuito is a young man with exceptional psychokinetic abilities who was saved by the OSF when he was a child and has since looked up to them and has undergone rigorous training to become one of them. As the newest member of the team along with fellow psychokinetic user Kasane Randall, he fights to protect New Himuka and ensure humanity’s survival.

Background

Scarlet Nexus is an upcoming action RPG being developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Its development team includes Kenji Anabuki as director and Keita Iizuka as producer, both of whom have worked on the popular Tales series. It was released on June 25, 2021 for Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.

An anime adaptation was announced in March 2021. It is being animated by Sunrise and features Hiroyuki Nishimura as director with Toshizo Nemoto and Yoichi Kato handling series composition, Hiroyuki Nishimura and Yuji Ito handling character designs, and Hironori Anazawa composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Red Criminal” by the rock band THE ORAL CIGARETTES. The anime will premiere in Japan on July 1, 2021 on Tokyo MX, BS11, and Sun TV. It will be available to stream in North America through Funimation Entertainment.

Characters

Yuito Sumeragi (Voiced by: Junya Enoki)
After being saved by the Other Suppression Force as a kid, he began to admire them. Though he was never scouted, after great effort he succeeded in enlisting. He comes from a prestigious family and his ancestor was the founding father of New Himuka. He is a young man with both strength and compassion. He is a psionic with psychokinetic abilities and can move objects with his mind without touching them.

Kasane Randall (Voiced by: Asami Seto)
She was scouted and enrolled in the OSF Training School, graduating at the top of her class. She was adopted into the prestigious Randall family. She has a strong attachment to her older sister Naomi even though they aren’t blood-related. She is a cool-headed pragmatist, but is prone to misunderstandings. Her power is psychokinesis.

Hanabi Ichijo (Voiced by: Tomomi Mineuchi)
An OSF member who joined at the same time as Yuito. She has a cheerful and positive attitude and always tries her best. She is childhood friends with Yuito and cares for him greatly. Her uncle is the board chairman of the OSF Hospital. Her power is pyrokinesis.

Tsugumi Nazar (Voiced by: Marika Kono)
A shy girl who is bad at communicating with others. Compared to Kagero, she has an awkward way of speaking. However, she is able to talk to Kagero with relative ease. She also has a surprising competitive side and hates to lose. She is highly skilled as a soldier and excels in support roles. Her hobby is gardening. Her power is clairvoyance.

Gemma Garrison (Voiced by: Ryota Takeuchi)
He is the longest serving OSF member of the group. He is stoic and a good advisor to Yuito. He is an expert when it comes to combat, but is generally unfamiliar with popular trends. His power is hardening.

Luka Travers (Voiced by: Chinatsu Akasaki)
He has the appearance of a young boy but is actually a highly experienced OSF member. Due to being unhappy with his physique, he is constantly training and taking protein, and he wields a huge hammer. He is Karen’s blood brother. His power is teleportation.

Shiden Ritter (Voiced by: Kengo Kawanishi)
He has a twisted personality and a poisonous tongue. However, he has a high level of ability, and his battle results more than make up for his bad attitude. He often clashes with Kasane, but she doesn't take him seriously. He has an electrostatic constitution and wears insulator gloves at all times. His power is electrical discharge.

Arashi Spring (Voiced by: Yui Horie)
In addition to her duties of defeating Others, she is also in charge of public relations for the rest of the OSF and is very friendly in front of the camera. However, off camera she is actually a lazy and unmotivated person and is sometimes called "Gudeara" because of this. She is quick-witted and a very good engineer. She is also Fubuki's older sister. Her power is super speed.

Kyoka Eden (Voiced by: Yumi Hara)
She is the captain of the Kyoka Corps and watches over the members of the corps with motherly care. She is a talented and patient woman. She has many fans both inside and outside the OSF, however she doesn't seem to be aware of it. Her power is duplication.

Kagero Donne (Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa)
A smooth talker whose pleasure-seeking attitude tends to disrupt the discipline of the troops, for which he shows no shame. He is very sociable and gets along well with both men and women. However, there is a part of him that doesn't show his true feelings. He often talks with Tsugumi. His power is invisibility.

Nagi Karman (Voiced by: Yuma Uchida)
A good-natured mood maker. He is a faddist who admires the popularity of the OSF, but he's also a serious citizen at heart. He hangs out with Yuito even though his excessive straightforwardness makes him anxious. His power is aerokinesis.

Naomi Randall (Voiced by: Asuka Nishi)
Kasan’s kind-hearted sister-in-law. She is both gentle and strong. She wears a matching hair ornament with Kasane, which she gave to her as a symbol of sisterhood when she first came to the Randall household. Her power is precognition.
