Synopsis

Yasuke, the first African samurai who served under Oda Nobunaga during the Warring States period, has left his violent life behind for the peaceful life of a boatman. But for the greatest ronin ever known as the Black Samurai, his past has a way of catching up with him. After taking a mysterious child under his wing, he is thrust back into conflict and must take up his sword once more to protect them from the dark forces that pursue them through a war-torn feudal Japan where magic and mechs exist.

Background

Yasuke is an original net animation (ONA) created by LeSean Thomas (Cannon Busters, Children of Ether, The Boondocks) and being produced by MAPPA (Chainsaw Man, IDOLiSH7, Yuri!!! on Ice). LeSean Thomas is also credited as the director and executive producer along with Flying Lotus (Blade Runner: Black Out 2022, Carole & Tuesday)who is also handing the music, and Takeshi Koike (Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Spirit Warrior, World Record) is credited with character designs. The anime will premiere worldwide via Netflix on April 29, 2021 and will run for six episodes.

The first African samurai who served under Oda Nobunaga. He is known as the Black Samurai. He has left his violent past behind and became a boatman in search of a quiet, peaceful life. However, he is caught in conflict when he takes in a mysterious child with strange powers and must take up his sword to protect them.
