Synopsis

Fifty years have passed since humans landed on the moon. Now, there are animals who want to succeed in the space development announced by the Animal Prime Minister and put a flag on the moon. In order to make this a success, the Animal Kingdom Space Academy is born. Kotetsu is a first-year student at the academy studying to become an astronaut. Together with other students who aspire to reach space, he works hard to make his dream come true.

Background

Space Academy began as a webcomic created by Yuji Nishimura in August 2019 and is a joint project between Kadokawa, Takara Tomy Arts, and studioU.G. The anime adaptation is being directed by Hazumu Sakuta with series composition by Yoichi Kato and will premiere in Japan on April 7, 2021

Characters

Kotetsu (Voiced by: Natsumi Fujiwara)
The protagonist of the series and student of the Space Academy Pilot Department. He dreams of becoming an astronaut. He likes gummy bears, lemon soda, and grilled meat. He has a serious and cheerful personality. His wanting to go to space is encouraged by his grandfather, who used to write space manga.

Niko (Voiced by: Junya Enoki)
A student of the Space Academy Pilot Department. He likes strawberries and sweets. He’s a bit cool but also loves cute things. His dream is to shake hands with an astronaut. He is the top student in his class and loves to study.

Ruu (Voiced by: Masashi Tamaki)
A rocket scientist whose dream is to create a car that can travel to space. He is obsessed with science and technology to the point where he loses sight of what’s going on around him. Though he is big, he has a kind personality.

Hikaru (Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu)
She is studying hospitality for customers who travel to space. Her dream is to introduce the stars in a fun way. She is full of curiosity and innocence. When she finds a hobby or something fun, she delves into it more than anyone else.

Otama (Voiced by: Akane Yamaguchi)
He is studying space food. His dream is to be the first chef in space. He is cheerful and full of confidence, and has a strong can-do spirit. Though he can be careless, he is serious at his core.

Kotetsu's Grandpa (Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi)
He has yearned for space ever since he was a young boy. He encouraged Kotetsu to become an astronaut. He used to write space manga. He sometimes speaks in an exaggerated manner, which surprises Kotetsu.

DAXA-kun (Voiced by: Tsuyoshi Muro)
DAXA’s mascot character who teaches various things about space.
