Synopsis
High school student Hiroshi Yuki is obsessed with video games and is one day tricked by game store manager Reona into buying a full-dive RPG called Kiwame Quest. The controversial game has received a flood of critique for being a crap game that is considered too realistic, impossible to beat, and just downright annoying to play. However, as a diehard gamer, Hiroshi is determined to beat the game at any cost, no matter how stressful it is!
Background
Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life! began as a light novel series written by Light Tuchihi and illustrated by Youta that has been published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J imprint since August 2020. Two volumes have been released so far. A manga adaptation illustrated by Kino has been serialized in the seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Alive since January 2021.
An anime adaptation was announced in December 2020. It is being directed by Kazuya Miura (DRAMAtical Murder, Kemono Michi: Rise Up, Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!) at ENGI and features Kenta Ihara (Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious, The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter, Saga of Tanya the Evil) handling series composition and screenplay, and Yuta Kevin Kenmotsu (Gonna be the Twin-Tail!!, Hybrid x Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia, Plunderer) adapting Youta’s original character designs for animation. The anime will premiere in Japan in April 2021.
Characters
Hiroshi Yuki (Voiced by: Daiki Yamashita)
A high school boy who loves VRMMOs. One day, while going to buy a new video game, he is tricked by Reona into buying the controversial game called Kiwame Quest which has a ZZ rating. Although he loves games, he is also athletic and was a promising member of the track team in middle school, but an incident forces him to quit the team.
Reona Kisaragi (Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu)
The manager of a declining game store. She has beautiful looks and silver hair as well as a great sense of style. She forcefully sells Hiroshi the game Kiwame Quest. Like Hiroshi, she seems to have great enthusiasm for video games, so much so that she plays the game together with Hiroshi as a support character.
Alicia (Voiced by: Ai Fairouz)
A childhood friend of Hiroshi’s in the game Kiwame Quest. She is a quiet girl with good looks who cares about Hiroshi and her brother Martin and worries about Hiroshi when he decides to leave the town of Ted, the starting town in the game.
Mizarisa (Voiced by: Shiori Izawa)
A pretty girl with red twintails who works as an Inquisitor in the town of Ted. She has a special fondness for Hiroshi.
Kaede Yuki (Voiced by: Aoi Koga)
A middle school student and Hiroshi’s little sister in the real world. She used to look up to Hiroshi, but ever since a certain incident she has become verbally abusive toward him and they don’t get along well.
Martin (Voiced by: Haruki Ishiya)
Hiroshi’s best friend in Kiwame Quest and Alicia’s older brother. He is well-built and good looking. He works on an apple farm. Like Alicia, he is worried about Hiroshi’s decision to leave town.
Ginji (Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi)
One of the few real players in Kiwame Quest. He looks like a dirty old drunk but he used to practice judo when he was younger and is good at strangleholds.
Tesla (Voiced by: Satoshi Hino)
One of the most powerful NPCs in Kiwame Quest. He is the captain of the town guard in Ted. HIs nickname is “Thunderbolt Tesla.”
Soichiro Kamui (Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)
A young city council member with a promising future. He used to be an extremely skilled full-dive RPG gamer and is the only player to have beaten Kiwame Quest. His player name is Kamui.
