Once every 500 years, shaman who can communicate with spirits compete in the Shaman Fight for the title of Shaman King. One of these hopefuls is a boy named Yoh Asakura, and his battle to become the Shaman King is about to begin!

Background

Shaman King began as a manga series written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Takei which has since been adapted into several spin-off manga and a TV anime that originally ran from July 2001 to September 2002 and spanned 64 episodes.

The upcoming anime is a reboot of the series that was announced in June 2020 and will adapt the 35 volumes of the new complete manga edition. It is being produced by Bridge and features Joji Furuta as director with Shoji Yonemura handling series composition, Satohiko Sano handling character designs, and Yuki Hayashi composing the music. The opening and ending theme songs are “Soul Salvation” and “Boku no Yubisaki,” both of which are being performed by Megumi Hayashibara. The anime will premiere in Japan on April 1, 2021 on TV Tokyo and other channels and will be available to stream sometime later in the year through Netflix.
