Synopsis

Takemichi Hanagaki can’t seem to catch a break in life. Not only does he live in a crappy apartment with paper-thin walls, but his boss who is six years younger than him constantly treats him like an idiot, he’s completely directionless in life, he’s broke, and to top it all off, he learns that the only girlfriend he ever had, Hinata Tachibana, has just been killed by a sinister group of delinquents and criminals called the Tokyo Manji Gang, or Toman for short. Background

Tokyo Revengers began as a manga series written and illustrated by Ken Wakui that has been serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine since March 2017. It won the 44th Kodansha Manga Award in the shonen category, and as of February 2021, it has sold more than 8 million copies. Kodansha USA began publishing the manga in English in October 2018.

An anime adaptation was announced in June 2020. It is being produced by Liden Films and features Koichi Hatsumi as director with Yasuyuki Muto handling series composition, Keiko Ota and Kenichi Ohnuki handling character designs, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Cry Baby" by Official HiGE DANdism, and the ending theme song is "Koko de Iki o Shite" by eill. The anime will premiere in Japan on April 10, 2021 on MBS and other channels. Crunchyroll will stream the series in North America.

The series is also getting a live-action film adaptation by Warner Bros. Japan that was originally slated to be released in October 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will instead be released in July 2021.

Characters

Takemichi Hanagaki (Voiced by: Yuki Shin)
A useless freelancer who has hit rock bottom in his life. His life peaked when he was in middle school, and he learns from the news that his only girlfriend from that time, Hinata Tachibana, has been murdered. One day, he is suddenly sent back 12 years in time.

Hinata Tachibana (Voiced by: Azumi Waki)
Takemichi's only girlfriend in middle school. She is a kind and cheerful girl with a strong sense of justice. In the present day, she gets wrapped up in a war between the Toman and dies.

Naoto Tachibana (Voiced by: Ryota Ohsaka)
Hinata's younger brother. In the present day, he is a police officer. Thanks to Takemichi's advice, he survives the time leap and becomes a collaborator in order to save his sister Hinata.

Manjiro "Mikey" Sano (Voiced by: Yuu Hayashi)
The leader of the delinquent group Toman. Despite his small stature, he is the strongest man in the group, and is known as the "Invincible Mikey.” He meets Takemichi by chance and takes a liking to him.

Ken Ryuguji (Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki)
A captain in the delinquent group Toman. He is also known as “Draken.” His trademarks are a tattoo of a dragon on his temple and his gold pigtail. He always works together with Mikey, the group’s leader, and is also a good partner.

Keisuke Baji (Voiced by: Masaaki Mizunaka)
A founding member of Toman and the group’s First Division Captain. Mikey has great trust in him. His favorite food is Peyoung.

Takashi Mitsuya (Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)
A founding member of Toman and the group’s Second Division Captain. He is like a dependable older brother.

Haruki Hayashida (Voiced by: Subaru Kimura)
A founding member of Toman and the group’s Third Division Captain. He isn’t very bright but is a strong fighter. His nickname is “Pah-chin.”

Ryohei Hayashi (Voiced by: Yukihiro Nozuyama)
The Third Division Vice-Captain of Toman. Pah-chin trusts him and he is his right-hand man. His nickname is “Peyan.”

Nahoya Kawata (Voiced by: Kengo Kawanishi)
The Fourth Division Captain of Toman. His nickname is “Smiley.”

Yasuhiro Muto (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)
The Fifth Division Captain of Toman. His nickname is “Mucho.”

Masataka "Kiyomasa" Kiyomizu (Voiced by: Satoshi Hino)
A member of Toman and the boss of the Shibuya Third Mid school. He treated Takemichi like a slave before he changed his past, and was the one who started to ruin Takemichi's life.

Atsushi "Akkun" Sendо (Voiced by: Takuma Terashima)
He is the leader of the Mizunaka Five, a group of delinquents from Takemichi’s middle school days.

Takuya Yamamoto (Voiced by: Yuya Hirose)
Takemichi’s childhood friend and a member of the Mizunaka Five. His distinctive feature is his long hair, and he is the quietest and weakest member of the group.

Makoto Suzuki (Voiced by: Shunsuke Takeuchi)
A member of the Mizunaka Five. He is always thinking about his dick.

Kazushi Yamagishi (Voiced by: Shouta Hayama)
A member of the Mizunaka Five and the group’s moodmaker. He has information that lives up to his name as the “Delinquent Dictionary.”

Nobutaka Osanai (Voiced by: Eiji Takeuchi)
The eighth leader of Mobius, a gang of delinquents based in Shibuya. He is a martial arts expert with great strength.
