Synopsis

“I’m breaking off our engagement.”
A glittering soirée is interrupted by this sudden declaration. At the shock of hearing these words, memories of Aileen Lauren Dautriche’s past life suddenly flood back to her, and she realizes the truth: she’s been reincarnated into the otome game she was hooked on in her past life…and she’s the villainess! With her memories intact, she knows the only thing that awaits her is a ruinous end and death. But there’s a way to avoid that ending - she just has to get the game’s final boss, Demon Lord Claude, to fall in love with her!

Background

I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss began as a light novel series written by Sarasa Nagase and illustrated by Mai Murasaki that was first published to the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro from May to December 2017. In September 2017, the series was picked up by Kadokawa Shoten, who began publishing it under their Kadokawa Beans Bunko imprint. Nine volumes have been published as of October 2021. The series is licensed for English release in North America through Yen Press, who will publish the fourth volume in October 2022.

A manga adaptation by Anko Yuzu was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Comp Ace magazine from June 2018 to August 2019 and was released in three collected tankobon volumes. It is also available in English through Yen Press.

A TV anime adaptation was announced in October 2021. It is being produced by Maho Film and directed by Kumiko Habara, with Kenta Ihara handling series composition and scripts, Eri Kojima, Momoko Makiuchi, and Yuko Oba handling character designs, and Hanae Nakamura, Kanade Sakuma, Miki Sakurai, Natsumi Tabuchi, and Sayaka Aoki composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Kyоokan Sarenakute mo Ii Janai” by Rie Takahashi, and the ending theme song is “Nomick” by ACCAMER. The anime will begin broadcasting in Japan on Oct. 1, 2022 on Tokyo MX and MBS, and it will be available to stream overseas through Crunchyroll.

Characters

Aileen Lauren Dautriche (Voiced by: Rie Takahashi)
Aileen is the only daughter of Duke Dautriche of the Elmir Empire. After her engagement is called off, the shock of it causes her to remember her past life, and she realizes that she has been reincarnated into the otome game Sei to Ma to Otome no Regalia as the villainess. In order to avoid the route to her own ruin that awaits her, she’ll have to do something truly daring like propose to a Demon Lord, but all kinds of difficulties stand in her way.

Claude Jeanne Elmir (Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara)
Claude is a Demon Lord and the first prince of the Elmir Empire. He was born with red eyes, which is proof that he is the Demon Lord reincarnated. He is able to control the weather around him depending on his mood.

Keith Eigrid (Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama)
Keith is the second son of a prestigious count. Though a mere human, he is Claude’s childhood friend. He is a handsome young man with curly chestnut hair and glasses. In Cedric’s route, he is caught trying to smuggle demons and is killed by an enraged Claude.

Belzebuth (Voiced by: Yuki Ono)
Belzebuth is a demon who has sworn his devotion and loyalty to Claude. He ranks second only to Claude and has lived for over 1,000 years. He has protected Claude since he was a baby, and there is nothing he wouldn't do for his sake. He sometimes says absurd things that bewilder those around him.

Cedric Jeanne Elmir (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda)
Cedric is Aileen’s ex-fiancé and is the second prince of the Elmir Empire. He is the game’s main love interest and is Claude’s half-brother. He has a very sensitive personality and a complex about his brother. He is also highly prideful and wants to be the superior crown prince.

Lilia Rainworth (Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa)
Lilia is Cedric’s fiancée and is the main character of the game. Depending on the route chosen, she turns into a holy maiden who confronts Claude after he awakens to his Demon Lord powers, but normally she is cute, sweet, and has a strong sense of justice.

Isaac Lombard (Voiced by: Yuma Uchida)
Isaac is Aileen’s classmate and right-hand man. He is the third son of a count of rising nobility. He is a handsome young man with sharp eyes and a curt yet compassionate personality. He manages Oberon Company, which was started by Aileen.

Jasper Varie (Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto)
Jasper is the president of Varie Newspaper and a reporter. Though lighthearted, he is a capable reporter and self-proclaimed ally of justice. His newspaper, which he makes for the common man, is highly reputed for its well-corroborated articles and impartial viewpoints.

Doni (Voiced by: Takuto Yoshinaga)
Doni is a small genius architect with charming looks. He is dextrous with his hands and has a genius talent in all aspects of manufacturing, from architecture to fine arts and even weapons. He works for Aileen at Oberon Company.

Ruck (Voiced by: Shinichiro Kamio)
Ruck is an outstanding physician who graduated from university on a scholarship. He runs a clinic together with his childhood friend, Quartz. Though he is good with people, he is also merciless with his enemies and is called the “Black-hearted Doctor” by Isaac. He is also in charge of product development at Oberon Company.

Quartz (Voiced by: Yu Miyazaki)
Quartz is Ruck’s childhood friend and is a botanist who graduated together with Quartz on a scholarship. He wears a large eyepatch on his right eye. Though he’s not good with people and doesn’t talk much, he has a kind personality. He manages a clinic together with Quartz while also working at Oberon Company.

Almond (Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita)
Almond is a crow demon who can communicate in human language, albeit in broken speech. He wears a characteristic red tie. Normally, he serves a variety of duties, from information gathering to delivering letters.
