Akane's cuteness and her unpredictability- what a combo. I think Phat did a great job with her face sculpt and expression. The pose also fits her personality, the way she is also hiding something sinister or questionable behind her back while smiling at you. There are 2 head options, the standard one, and one with her headphones and glasses. I love the one with headphones, however, the wire from the headphones are supposed to stay inside her shirt pocket, but it just falls out because it doesn't actually plus into anything, just rests on the edge of the pocket sculpt. She also has 2 options of what's in her hand, either a box cutter or a kaiju model. Really like both of these ...Read more
Keep your gokin expectations low for this one, it's quite lightweight in that regard. But it has incredible articulation, possibly the best of any Armageddon Getter-1 figure, even exceeding the SRC. Comes with tons of effect parts and accessories (2 tomahawk axes, 2 guns, hands, display stand), 2 cape varieties, one standard and one extra large to wrap Getter-1. It's also smaller than I thought it would be at 8" (20.3cm). It's not the most high-end Getter figure in terms of gokin and paint finish, but it's a fun figure for sure. Attached photo shows POSE+ Heat Getter-1 compared with Carbotix Black Getter.
I already have 6 other VF-25 variants in my collection, so of course I needed to add one more. Bandai's first worldwide Macross toy release is a beautifully painted blue/white tribute to the franchise, and it's freedom from Harmony Gold's stranglehold over Robotech in the West. There are some improvements to the previous releases such as the extra screws to keep the hip joint tight. The matte finish gives a premium look to the toy. The engineering of this transformation is still amazing, in plane mode you can hardly tell it transforms.
From the new Getter Arc anime comes the Getter D2, which is the first time (along with GX-99 Getter Arc) that SOC has released figures at the same time as the anime airing. While the Getter Arc figure has an all new sculpt, the D2 looks like a re-use of the old GX-51 Getter Dragon mold from 2009, which is unfortunate. Instead of feeling like a modern gokin toy, it feels like something a decade old (and not in a good way.) On the plus side, it has a good amount of diecast and weighs more than the larger Getter Arc. I feel like this one is for the completionists (like me), but if this is your first SOC purchase you must be quite disappointed.
Bandai knocked it out of the park with this Daileon figure. Although I am not familiar with the show, I am a huge collector of robots, and I love this figure. It feels hefty for its size, lots of diecast like those old vintage gokin toys. The transformation is faily simple and intuitive. The charcter design has that cool Sentai vibe. It looks awesome in both modes. Some might find the articulation limiting but I feel it is part of the nostalgic charm, since the character was originally protrayed by a person in a robot suit.
This figure is hefty (over 1 kg). It's solid. Beautifully painted. Fantastic sculpt. It is a super nostalgic toy reminiscent of the vintage Godaikin/Popy/Matchbox toy from the 1980's. Every time I pick it up I am astonished by how heavy it is. It is probably Bandai's best selling SOC of all time (now on its 3rd run). Definitely pick one up if you are a fan of Voltron or of robot toys. You will not be disappointed.
I'm amazed by how much detail are in these approx 1/144 scale Metal Robot Spirits. The diecast joints and inner parts really help keep this Wing Zero from getting floppy to transform. Really is incredible to handle. Can't wait to get the Deathscythe Hell.
Bandai did an excellent job on this Myth Cloth EX figure for the God of Sleep. The figure has some nice face sculpts with personality. The diecast armor is fantastic and the final armored look is beautiful and imposing. Must get!
Love the white bunny suit with her pink hair. Although there is a lack of stockings I find it extra sexy without it. I wish they gave her a ifferent expression than the first red version though, just for variety sake.
This is a beautiful Capt America figure. Great articulation, usual per Sentinel. The shiny metallic paint is flawless. This is exactly how I would picture Capt in an Iron Man suit.
Paint and articulation are typical Sentinel quality. The blue and yellow gold colors look superb. The head sculpt and torso are the only different sculpted parts from other Fighting Armor figures. The claws are cool, but I wish the other option hands had the metal casing sculpted like Wolverine's usual gloves when claws are retracted. If that detail was included it would be 5 stars.
Everyone remembers the first time they watched AKIRA in the 90's. That scene where Kaneda rides his incredibly cool red motobike caused my jaw to drop. When I found out they made a replica of this iconic bike a few years back, the price was already astronomical. I'm so happy a reissue happened and I finally have this motobike to add to my collection. It's just so impressive. The lighting and LED effects are just so cool.
This really is a beautiful figure. Her expression fits her attitude perfectly.
Seems like Kancolle popularity has dropped somewhat but the figures still keep coming. I wanted another 1/8 to display with my GSC Iowa, and Saratoga really fit with her well. Her embarrassed expression is a nice contrast to Iowa's cheery demeanor. The paint and detailing on her outfit looks great. Really love adding her to my collection.
SOC engineering has come a long way. However, it seems like there is no way to get more articulation out of this design, even compared to the 40 year old Godaikin version made by Popy/Bandai. Interestingly, Bandai excluded diecast from all the other figures except Garbin (big blue guy), to reduce paint chip issues. While the molded color plastics look pretty good, it doesn't compare to the magnificent metallic blue paint of the massive Garbin. This is the tallest (though not heaviest) figure in the SOC lineup standing at 31.5cm. Looks impressive on display, though it cannot pull of action poses well.
The core figure has a nice amount of diecast, and actually has excellent articulation compared to most import figures. SPider-Man has a decent ab crunch, and the thighs can extend down to allow more range of movement. The thigh swivel is great. The knee armor moves with the bend to hide the joint. I would give the core figure 5 stars in construction and paint quality. The accessories are bit limited compared to SHF. However, the Iron Spider legs feel less inspired. The spider leg joints can only be moved in certain ways, and you need to be aware how you are manipulating them so you don't twist them the wrong way and snap the plastic joint. Also, the way they are attached to the back cou...Read more
This diecast figure of Gurren Lagann is just incredible. The metallic red looks like car paint on a Corvette. Although it is somewhat stylized version of GL, the extra details look amazing and not out of place at all. It comes with tons of accessories, like the Gurren Wing, the drills, alternate face, extra hands, the display options are almost endless. If you are a fan of GL but don't collect mecha figures, you'll still want to buy this. Once you hold it in your hand and feel the heft and the cold diecast, you'll fall in love.
These are fun and easy to build. EX-Standard still has the hollow-ness when viewed from the back, and require some painting and panel lining to look as good as official pics. Nu-Gundam has always been one of my favorites, because Char's Counterattack was awesome.
I was surprised by the size of the figure when I received it, especially at the great price. It is above average prize figure quality. The real fishnet is nice touch, and a minor complaint would be the thick stitching on the back of the legs. It's not comparable to the quality you would get from FREEing's 1/4 B-Style, but for under $20, it's pretty incredible they even bothered to use real fishnet fabric. Reason I deducted 1-star, is because from some side angles, you can see the lumpiness of the stitching, which ruin the silhouette of the figure.
Wife has a Switch and she loves Zelda games. This nendo was just too cute. She loves the figure. Comes with lots of accessories for a variety of display options. The faces are very expressive, allowing for many cool action poses.
Really like this figure. The metallic painted claws, horns, and tail are nicely detailed. Even the under-side, the legs and toenails are sculpted and painted. I have Lala and Momo as well from this series, and I feel Union Creative has done a great job with their sculpts and poses. The way the "dress" drapes and spreads out means the figure takes up more space than you think. Also, does not come with a base, so be careful what kind of surface you place the figure on.
GSC's Moderoid line is still fairly new-ish, and still has some catching up to Bandai's level of plastic quality and piece fitment. With Moderoid kits, you will get a few small seam gaps and overly tight fits, and you'll need to file down pegs to make the pieces fit better. Something about their plastic feels more brittle as well. This FRANXX kit was no exception to the usual problems. One issue is how thin the legs are, with small feet, which makes this finished kit rather top heavy, so balancing it requires some patience. I highly recommend using a display stand like the ones for Gundam MG kits, and don't bother with the included "kickstand" because she'l...Read more
Tanya looks so wicked. As usual per Figma, every small detail has been sculpted and painted. Tanya's faces are the highlights of this figure. They're all so expressive.
This Mari figure is beautiful! I skipped on Asuka because the face sculpt missed the mark on Shunya's artwork, but this Mari totally nailed it, just like the Rei version. So happy to get this rare EVA Store Exclusive. One of the highlights in my EVA collection for sure.
It's a funny name, since this reminds me more of an ostrich than a scarecrow. It's one of the simpler Hexa Gear vehicles, but it's still pretty good. These would prob look cool if you were to army build, but since Koto kits are bit pricier, I'm okay with just one. Make sure to buy a Hexa Gear Governor figure to use with it.
Finally got around to building this kit, and I have to say it is the best Hexa Gear kit. The way the cockpit opens and you can place a pilot inside is just so cool. Very solid and poseable. I can recommend all the Bulkarm variants as well, since it is based on the same core parts. Just an amazing Koto kit. Bravo!
Was on the fence about this figure initially due to the controversy around the mangaka. However, I am such a huge Kenshin fan, and there are very few Kenshin figures out there, so I caved. I'm glad to own this figure. The details are spot on and really just a beautiful figure all around. There is a strange issue with the base though, where only 1 of the feet is pegged into the base. I hope this does not affect the balance of the figure long term.
I bought both this Megahouse DX set and the GSC DX set. The GSC one is larger and better painted. And also cheaper. Megahouse missed the mark on this one IMO.
It's a super cute Saber figure. The crown and cloak accessories look so cool on her. As usual per nendos, excellent paint apps and details.
Pros:
It's bigger and better than the Megahouse version
Many combinations and playability
Cons:
All plastic. Could've used some diecast in the legs for stability
Best version of this character but could be better
If GSC/Max Factory made option sets for their excellent Figma SSSS.Gridman, it would have been a home run. Don't know why they went with a downsized figure with mediocre articulation as the core of the set.
Great looking figure, really looks just like Mai in the first episode of the anime series.
Hexa Gear kits are a nice change of pace from Gundam kits. I really enjoy the scale, and the opportunity to place pilots into these vehicles. Albeit these kits are a bit on the expensive side, the details truly are amazing. It's incredible how Koto engineered these kits to have alt modes. I would recommend these kits to builders with a bit more experience, and not beginners, since it contains many small fragile parts during assembly.
When you first see the sprues on this kit, you will be impressed with Bandai's innovative multi-layer molding. Really gives a nice warmth to the skin tone. However, Bandai didn't do this with the arms so the skin tone is off under certain lighting. Bandai also did a better job hiding the nub marks on the legs compared to the first version. I am looking forward to see what else they do in this line.
GSC modified some joints after numerous breakage issues from the first run of these Moderoid Mazinkaiser kits, and they're much sturdier now. Not a fan of the white/red color scheme, but the flame hair is awesome. Planning to repaint this to a darker color scheme. Poseability is not at the level of Bandai's Gundam kits yet, but I can see GSC improving with each new release.
For sale price, this was actually an okay figure. All plastic, and loose, floppy joints. Feels kinda fragile. But after I modded the figure a little and tightened the joints, it's not as terrible. For this scale, I would recommend Hi-Metal R by Bandai.
These are amusing little desk toys. Decent poseability. They look more like kids dressed in costume instead of the actual heroes.
Interesting figure that is less chibi styled compared to Nendoroid, and more along the lines of Cu-poche. Some diecast gives the figure a lil bit of extra heft. Better than expected.
This kit surpassed my expectations. It's much larger than the usual 1/144 Gundam RG kits. The DX platform display is also really nice. I love the extra angular details on the kit as well. Looks like a more "realistic" take on the EVA.
This Mafex figure knocked it out of the park. Compared to previous Mafex versions of this WW figure, Mafex got the face right this time with the Justice League version. It's better looking than SHF as well, which doesn't happen too often with Mafex. My only gripe would be the soft strap she wears, often gets out of shape in box, and seems to "float" on her body instead of dangling from gravity with the lasso attached.
I was very excited to see more Escaflowne. I had to get this kit. After the build, I feel a bit disappointed. At 5.5", it's about the size of a figma figure. I feel like GSC is still learning how to refine their model kits. As you assemble this kit, you'll find small gaps in the seams, which means you need to file the pegs a bit. Aside form the seam lines, you'll also find some mold lines where the mold is separated when they make the parts for the kit. As for articulation, the thigh swivel is very limited, no other leg swivel except for the ankles. The shoulders are limited by the large shoulder armor. The head only rotates and cannot look up or down. The soft cape doesn...Read more
I really wanted the spear of Cassius. Which is sculpted pretty nice, but also quite thin and fragile. The Asuka fig is not bad, but my copy has quite a number of sloppy paint apps. Maybe someday I'll repaint parts of it to make it better.
Our #1 esper in her iconic pose, about to flick that coin loaded with lightning. The pose is cool, with Misaka on some I-beams. Paint is pretty good, though not perfect, but better than most prize figs.
This is the first Tiger suit you see in episode 1 of Tiger & Bunny anime. Has that cool retro super hero styling, with that Batman-style mask and cape. Fun figure. Tampos and logos are clean. Paint apps are also clean and well done.
Really surprised by how good this figure is. So many cool gimicks and option parts. The small pod ship can dock into the torso from the back, where the backpack can swivel up. The torso can open to show the pod where the pilot sits. Comes with 3 backpack options: basic, the Twin Movers, and the Sling Pannier wings. There are thruster bells on the legs that can be adjusted. Such an underrated figure, since Vifam is fairly unknown in the US.
I ordered this figure in July of 2018. After delays and delays, the figure finally released in 2020 right during the pandemic which caused shipping problems from Japan. After a few more months TOM managed to ship and I got it in Oct of 2020. Was it worth the wait? I think the sculpt is cute and nice, but it's not the best Yoko figure at that price point. However, her outfit is unique among Yoko figures and I think it is a nice addition to Gurren Lagann collection. I will look for a Nia if it ever goes on sale.
Very simple build. Fun little figure. I recommend some clear coat to keep the cat stripe stickers from peeling over time.
I bought the first run of this kit in 2018, and finally got around to building it in 2020. The way the shoulder joint is designed is flawed, because the shoulder peg will break inside the shoulder. After I built this kit, the first time I tried to raise the arms, they broke at the shoulder peg because of tight tolerance and bad design. Maybe the plastic degraded in the 2 years it sat in the box. I bought a Moderoid Mazinkaiser Liger kit on sale from TOM in 2020 to get replacement parts for the shoulders and found that GSC had addressed this issue and modified how the shoulder joint is assembled. Good to see GSC is learning how to design better model kits but sucks that my kit is permanently ...Read more
This is a very good Nendoroid, with the added elbow and knee articulation (usually not available in Nendoroids). I love the extra accessories, like the gun effects, or the semi-translucent coat tails for the wraith ability.
Deku is super cute. The figure is nicely detailed for its size. I want to get more MHA Chibis.
Tenya was a nice addition to display with Deku. I'm really impressed by how nicely detailed these small figures are.
Sylphy is a very cute kit. Was fun to build, and the color separation was surprisingly good. Only downside is the finished kit is about 2/3 the size of other standard FAG kits.
Galatt is very obscure in the West. The anime is quite odd because it is not very serious, and is sort of a comedy action show, with one of the characters being a lecherous old man who is constantly hitting on one of the female main characters who is a minor (prob why this show never made it out of Asia). The main mecha is a funny looking small robot called Jumbow, and size morphs into the alien fighting giant robo called Galatt, which is pilot by the main protagonist, a young boy whose name I don't remember. I collected a few Variable Action hi-Spec by Megahouse, particularly from the Orguss series, which are beautifully painted diecast figures. While I do like the paint finish on Gala...Read more
There are so many prize figures for the popular girls from Evangelion, seemingly endless, as they continue to produce more and more in anticipation of the 3.0+1.0 movie. Some prize figures are great for the money, some are just okay. This figure falls somewhere in the middle. On my copy, the face was okay (which is the most important), but the rest of her suit was sloppily painted. A lot of line bleeds, over-paint, etc. I do like Rei's simple pose holding on to her backpack. Perhaps I may repaint this one someday.
The much awaited S-Style Jibril looks great with her friends from No Game No Life. She's nicely detailed despite being a small 1/12 figure. The hair color and the shading on the wings are nicely done.
Getter Robo used anime magic to morph and combine, so it takes some serious engineering to make it happen in toy form. Aside from the very expensive Studio Halfeye versions, there are a few varieties released by FREEing, in a slightly chibi form (without the big head). This one is from the New Getter Robo anime released back in 2004. The combinations and transformations of the 3 Getter machines into the 3 different Getter Robo forms is quite impressive, although bit finicky. The first time might be particularly frustrating. The final product may not be pretty, due to the amount to hinges and joints required to "dynamic change", and the extra "kibble" that will exist. Howe...Read more
I got this because it looked so unique, and has a tail. It's based of the G-AGE Ghirarga kit, but the blue color looks much better. Most of the HG G-AGE kits were actually above average, so this one is pretty nice also. It got 4 stars because it's just a HG 1/144, not because there is anything wrong with it.
I'm a sucker for Gurren Lagann figures and robots, so I had to add this wonderful Yoko to my collection. It's my 8th Yoko scale figure. I really like her pose with her finger gun. Her winking face is super cute. One major concern is about the tight gun strap, which broke for some people when they were putting the figure together. A minor concern is about the overall colors, which don't look as vibrant as the official photos. The display base is not clear like the phots, but a flat black plastic boring base. Not my favorite Yoko fig but still happy to have it.
For anyone who is curious, it's says non-scale but it fits well with 1/7.
but it's a damn good looking figure. Really happy that Megahouse has continued to bring more iconic characters from the Gundam franchise. The 08th MS Team is one of my favorite Gundam shows, so I'm quite please Aina Sahalin got some representation. Even though she's a bit curvier than I remember here, the pose is quite sexy without revealing way too much. The face sculpt is spot on to her likeness in the anime.
Hoping someday they will make a Shiro Amada GGG figure to pair with Aina.
I know most of the governors are more or less the same, but this one invoked that nostalgia of Jin-Roh Wolf Brigade anime from 2000. If there was 1 Hexa figure I would get multiple to army build, this is the one.
This was a pretty simple build, under an hour. Painting would take a bit longer. The end result is a cool bike for your Hexa Gear or other 1/24 scale action figures. Very solid and stable, and not fiddly at all.
Fairly easy build, I would rate it somewhere between HG and MG kit. The end result is an awesome Mazinger that towers over most of the figures you own. Very impressive.
Sinon with cat ears and tail is adorable. The figure has decent paint for a prize figure type price. Wife's favorite character from GGO. She's quite happy with it.
As usual, GFFMC delivers another incredible figure with inner diecast frame, and loaded with tampo details. Figure feels amazing in hand. Tons of accessories. This is a must for any Gundam fan. I hope they keep making more Zaku variants, as well as the Gouf and Gouf Custom.
SSSS.Gridman had some great hype when it was airing, but something happened that after the show ended, a lot of interest seem to have faded. And then a few months later, figma SSSS.Gridman showed up. I almost didn't open it, but I'm glad I did. The figure has one of the best articulation of all the figmas I've handled (around 50). Excellent posability, good balance. It can easily achieve a crouching pose, or Iron Man ground pound pose, or any sword fighting pose. It can do it all. Not a lot in terms of accessories, except the awesome Calibur sword. My only issue, is the way the handle is sandwiched inside the sword, and comes loose too easily, so while I'm trying to get ...Read more
Gave one to my cousin because she was a huge Harry Potter fan. She found it very cute and adores it.
Wanted to try out a Petitrits kit, for a change of pace from robots, and...it's okay. It's a quick build, fewer pieces than a HG Gundam, and is about 4" completed. There isn't much leg articulation, since there aren't any knee joints, so it is more or less locked into one pose, and you can adjust the arms and head. The thing I do not like- it requires either a lot of stickers, or some meticulous painting in small details. The swords and lower legs are solid black, and all the details from the promo photos are stickers (33 of them). People who want a more economic option for chibi style figures might enjoy these more, but personally I think I'll stick to Gundams ...Read more
Gave this as a gift to my niece. She totally adores it. Very cute and fluffy.
I have only a few SHF Dragon Ball figures, and they have become pricey to collect, so I started building Figure-rise Standard kits as a cheaper alternative to fulfill my Dragon Ball itch. Broly is by far the largest kit in the series so far. When completed, he stands about 22cm (about 8.6", larger than the 7" given in product description). Broly looks massive and imposing, and works well with other FRS and can even scale with SHF.
The articulation though, is never as good as SHF figures, though not terrible either. His biggest limitation is in the ankle, which doesn't allow much up tilt (and no toe hinge). The side to side tilt for a super wide A-stance or action pose is a...Read more
From that early episode of No Game No Life where Steph loses to Blank, she's penalized with doggy ears and tail. The sculpt for her face is very cute, and the rest of the figure is quite sexy. However, I feel the sculpt got lazy with the dog parts. The ears look like oden fish cake patties and the tail looks like a potato. There is very little effort to make it look like fur, aside from a few dimples here and there.
If you have the 1/12 Shiro Cat, they look great together and really compliment each other. Waiting on the 1/12 Jibril Shampoo figure to complete the trio.
He's got one of those faces only One-Punch Man fans can love. The nendo is cute, typical swap out pose arms and legs for a flying action pose, and a swooping cape. Only other face plate is the angry face, but I feel GSC could've given a few more expressions, such as the blank stare and the grit teeth angry face. the grocery bag accessories are kind of throw away, because no one I know is displaying it with those. Extra faces would have made this a 5-star release!
I'm a huge Kill La Kill fan, so this may be biased. Yes, I'm biased, but this is also the truth. This is one of, if not the best Ryuko Matoi figures you can buy. Sure, it's huge and takes up a lot of space, but how can you not smile when you see this super cute and sexy figure of Ryuko in a shiny bunny suit? A must-have for Kill La Kill fans. MUST. HAVE.
I started watching one of the Tomino animes that I missed when I was younger called Dunbine. It made me interested in the Robot Spirits line, and TOM had this Leprechaun on sale. The figure is quite amazing by RS standards. It's larger than most other RS figures, and has excellent poseability. The large feet help maintain all sorts of action poses without issue due to the articulated toes. The translucent blue insect wings look very cool. The sword stores inside the shield, and the chest opens to reveal cockpit detail. Wish they included a small pilot figure for these figures. Hope TOM gets more Dunbine Robot Spirits in the future... though unlikely since the show isn't super pop...Read more
As usual with Revoltechs, you get some really cool poses from the figures, but it looks a bit odd in a straight A-stance. Decent accessories and hand options included. Mine had a loose wrist joint so the weapon will flop around when held. One of the shoulder Harken Blades falls off constantly, which can be resolved with a bit of sticky tack.
Seems like a compromise to allow for armor parts without having peg holes all over Masotan. It does look nice on display, as long as you don't touch it. That's the biggest issue I have with this figure. Every time I go to adjust something, I accidentally bump off a piece of magnetized armor. It gets frustrating trying to align things again and again. Masotan is very expressive with 2 head types, as well as 3 eye options. GSC opted for swapped legs to pose in flight, instead of additional joints/hinges on the limbs, which does look better but I find they pop off too easily, just like the armor.
Out of the box, one of the wing joints sheared off when I tried to move the wing. T...Read more
Although it's not expensive, this 3.5" figure seems somewhat lacking, the plastic is soft-ish, and quite fiddly to handle. Trying to adjust the legs, the hip skirts move out of position. Adjusting the hip armor and the arms and shoulders move out of position. If you can do some custom painting to add color to all the boosters and some additional details, it has potential to look much better.
Frenchies are all the rage! My wife loves all these frenchie plushies.
The first release of FAG Gourai in 2016 had many issues: Loose joints, terrible nub locations, and some limitations to articulation due to armor and skirt. 2.5 years later, Kotobukiya updated the design of the FAG body, and the kit is improved in almost every way. This Ver 2 kit allows you to build either the standard Gourai, or the Gourai Kai (heavier armor). The improved hip joint adds additional articulation which allows better posing without the legs popping off. The skirt now has articulated points which allow a wider range of movement from the legs. If you are looking for a FAG Gourai kit, this is the version to get!
Though the painted details are simple, the facial likeness is spot on. Her simple street wear is tasteful and the pose is cute and sexy. Even the flip-flops are sculpted nicely. There are a few obvious seam lines visible- on the left hand from wrist to thumb, as well as the feet, but it's expected from these cheaper prize-figure types. The figure is surprisingly larger than expected at 23cm. There is a video of a collector doing simple custom detailing to this figure on YT, and it looked amazing afterward.
It's a nice companion piece to display with Yotsuba nendoroid, however, I feel the head is too big? Even for a nendoroid. It doesn't come with any accessories (as expected), but has light up eyes (batteries not included). I feel $30 is over-priced for this figure though, considering the simplicity of the figure, and that the only paint app is the silver button on the chest. If it was $20-ish would have been a 4-star.
4 face options! Little purse! Teddy bear! Paint brush and paint bucket! So many cute poses and expressions you can put her in. I love the manga and I love the Nendoroid.
The A-Z Gundam, based on the Zeta, looks quite nice and colorful, with the light blue, yellow, and orange. I really like how the guns can be attached onto the backpack weapons to form massive cannons. The transformation gimmick, is achieved through parts forming, by removing almost everything from the torso- arms, legs, backpack, hip skirts, etc- then reattaching the various parts onto another large core part. The process kinda sucks, but the end result in Waverider mode is solid and sturdy, unlike the issues that plague the RG version when the joints get loose and the Waverider mode is a floppy mess. It's a good kit, but I don't think anyone that has it will bother with the transf...Read more
I love asymmetrical designed MS, and also love the Astray, so this kit immediately appealed to me. The kit has great potential, but the No-Name cloak/weapon gimmick is quite fussy and gets in the way sometimes of poses. feels like it's 1 or 2 joints shy of being more functional and fun. Also, the changes to the various "forms" of the No-Name requires part-swapping, which is somewhat annoying because you have to go find the parts in the box or leaving them sitting on the shelf near the kit. It does look good though.
Let's note that this is a pricey figure set at over $350, so the people who buy it are going to be mecha-geeks like myself. So, is it worth the price tag?
My first impression when picking this figure out of box, is that it is much lighter than expected. Riobot Grendizer weighs 253g, compared to Soul of Chogokin DC Grendizer, at 350g. However, the Riobot set makes it up with the Spazer, which weighs 356g, compared to SOC DC Spazer, which weighs 290g. The details on the Spazer does look incredible, with 3 different tones of red, along with various painted details. In addition, the Riobot Spazer has a gimmick where it transforms into an exo-armor for Grendizer, which might be cool, or ...Read more
When I saw initial pics of this at a show, I was hoping it would be a Nendoroid, instead of a model kit. This Nendoroid sized Gurren Lagann is quite cute, and is a nice piece to have along with Nendoroid Yoko, Simon, and Kamina. However, given the size of the head and torso, I think Good Smile could have also added some light blue pieces for the colors around the eyes, and some black and silver pieces inside the torso mouth. The build is quite simple, and the lack of color separation makes it feel somewhat inferior to even Bandai HG 1/144 Gundam kits. With a bit of work, such as buying some gold paint to cover the yellow parts, and light blue for those details around the eyes on the head and...Read more
After watching this anime, I really wanted a small figure of Rin, and then this was announced. It's very nicely painted for such a tiny figure (7cm). Attaching it to the base was tricky, because it does require some force, and you will hear a click when it finally fits into the peg holes. The pegs are so tiny and the force required makes you feel like you might rip the bike in half. Once it is in though, it looks awesome and so cute on your desk. As you see in the pic, the wheels can sit flush to the base, but take your time. Really is an awesome figure for the price.
There are 2 grey runners and 1 olive drab runner, and the final built product is much darker than what the pictures show. Also, lots and lots of ugly seam lines in the most visible areas. It is a nice add-on for the Grimoire Red Beret though.
When I saw the pre-order, I couldn't decide whether to order it or not. I was not a huge fan of Good Smile Arms from few years back, which was GSC's attempt at some robot toys. They were all plastic and just felt like pre-painted plastic models in hand. However, I decided to give Demonbane a shot and it was surprisingly good. I was quite surprised GSC decided to make such an obscure robot from an eroge (erotic video game) for its first entry. But since Demonbane looked so unique and I didn't have any representation of the robot in my collection, I ordered it. The final product is quite good. You can tell there is diecast due to the weight in hand. The armor is a mix of painte...Read more
Dragonzord is nicely painted and detailed. Has diecast which gives it nice weight. Because it can combine with GX-72 Megazord, it's a wonderful addition to my collection. However, I think on its own, it's kind of limited in playability. The articulation is really limited compared to other Soul of Chogokin toys. It's a must-get if you own GX-72. Otherwise, it's rather mediocre on its own for a SOC.
My first Parfom figure. The style is interesting, like an elongated Nendoroid. It's bigger than I expected at 14.5cm (most Nendos are at 9.5cm), which is cool. The proportions though, are not something everyone will like. The feet are tiny. However, EVA-01 comes with the power cable accessory which can be attached to the back, and the wired cable can serve as a support, so it can be displayed without a display base. The metallic paint on this is beautiful, very glossy and shimmery and looks amazing under light. All the paint apps are well done. The giant head is one of the best painted EVA-01 heads I've even seen, and the mouth opens for berserk mode, and even the inside of the mo...Read more
After I watched Batman Ninja, I was feeling hyped about this figure. But so much time passed and SHFiguarts released their version months ago. Many, many months later, figma finally released their version. I got the special DX Sengoku version, which includes additional samurai armor for Batman. It's cool, but wow, so much more expensive than just standard figma Ninja Batman. I don't regret buying it, but I do with the price wasn't at the level of a Soul of Chogokin robot (which includes diecast and even more accessories). There are quite a number of very thin plastic parts on this figure- the fins on the forearms, the horns on the head, and the katana. These parts require som...Read more
I'm not familiar with this character from the Dino-Getter manga, but it sure does look cool. Sentinel always does a good job with the sculpt and painted details. I think the alt mode after transformation is supposed to be some kind of 2 headed sea monster, but it looks odd to me. Nice addition to your Getter collection if you can also get the Dino-Getter-1 and Getter-2.
Ryuko from KLK has tons of figures out, but this one in action pose is my favorite. It stands out due to her aggressive stance and skimpy outfit. For a 1/8 it looks small due to the lean/squat pose, but her sword actually extends far behind her and requires some extra space.
QanT is a popular Gundam so this was expected. It's your usual NXEDGE figure. Kind of like nendoroids of Gundam but with better articulation. Looks good next to the Exia.
Adorable little 5" plush. My nieces loved them.
This is basically just Kid Goku SHF with a different head. Some different accessories, but I wish Bandai made more variation to their outfit. It is cute though.
Genji is a nice addition to the Overwatch nendo line, but he doesn't have a face, so less parts in the box. The stubby arms and legs limit some of the poses Genji would perform in game. The figma is a more fun figure, but the nendo is def cuter.
It arrived in the brown Tamashii Exclusive shipper box which was pretty cool. The figure looks nice. Face sculpt is more anime accurate than Zero Two IMO. The figure cannot stand without a display base though (which is anime accurate but sucks for an action figure). I really hope SHF makes the remaining cast even though these FRANXX figures weren't flying off the shelves.
Very happy that Good Smile made Kamina and now Simon. They look great on display with nendoroid Yoko. Now the trio is complete! The box was larger than expected, because there is a bonus Gurren Lagann head that could also be used with the Moderoid Gurren Lagann. Def interested in that combination.
This is a very cute figure of Sakura that is also inexpensive. The quality though is about that of a above average prize figure. Paint is good but not super sharp and clean like expensive scale figures. The ribbon from her hat does not stay pegged in to the stars behind her as shown on the instructions but it still looks fine. CCS was one of my wife's favorite animes years ago, so she was quite happy to get a figure of Sakura to display.
Cute and sexy figure of Miku with a tan. Didn't have the color consistency issues some people had. It's a nice figure. Definitely a unique look for Miku.
Love the dark elite troop color Zaku I. It's a simple design but the colors give this grunt suit a special feel. I like the forearm shield and heavy weapon. Another good Origin HG kit.
Japan has the most interesting snacks and candy. Peach gum was good.
The flavor fades after a couple of minutes. Super cute packaging though.
Back when TOM sold candy, these were among the best. Often sold out though.
I love grunt suit MS. That's why I love the Zaku and all the variants and colors. I love how Origin is bringing us new (old) designs and variants to all the existing MS. I love the big shoulder cannon. The muted brick color is also a nice variation. Really cool kit.
They really know how to milk that Saber design, don't they? The white dress younger Saber is really nice though. It's very pretty and elegent.
My wife is no exception. Got this for her so she would get a nice gift once in awhile when I buy all these expensive robot toys.
I love grunt unit mechs. GMs and Guncannons are fodder, but their basic designs appeal to me. This Origin version of the Guncannon taakes on a pale tan color, different from the usual red, which I find real cool and more "military", like a desert type unit color. Though all of Origin's MS are more or less used only in space. This kit comes with parts to build either of 2 variants. Personally I mixed the parts because I like one head better on one version and the weapons better on the other. Origin kits are very sticker heavy but they are always optional. Luckily not too much needed to make the colors accurate.
I don't own any other Code Geass figures other than the two METAL ROBOT SPIRITS. I really like the look and feel of them. The joints are tight and a bit too stiff but better than loose. The Seiten is a cool red beast against the white of the Lancelot. Reminds me of Char vs Amuro (I'm OG). My only gripe is I wish the figure was bigger due to the price. It does come with a ton of accessories though. The paint and detailing is also perfect.
Got these for my wife as a add-on because she likes pandas (who doesn't?) She really love them.
NXEDGE is fun. They're not too expensive (with a few exceptions) and not that fragile, so you can keep them around a desk and pose them. EVA Unit-02 TV is a repaint of the movie version NXE. I feel they could have resculpted some details instead of just painting in a different pattern.
I got into Hexa Gear kits because I wanted to build something aside from Gundams all the time. I think it's interesting, but not perfect. Kotobukiya has created this whole new scale of figures and transforming vehicles, which is cool. I find the joints and moving parts get loose though quite quickly. With Zoanthropus, he suffers from the same issue. The small ball joints the figure uses tends to loosen quickly. I wish Koto provided some kind of wide base that plugs into the foot to help them stand in action poses, similar to some Revoltechs. Some paint is required to make it look as detailed as official pics. I think these are fun despite their issues, and joints can be tightened using ...Read more
So happy there was a re-run of this figure, to go along with Ainz.
They look great together. It was impossible to have one without the other.
I missed out on the first Formania release because I had limited funds at the time, but Bandai came out with the EX version (extra LEDs). For big time Gundam fans, esp of Char's Counterattack. This is a great display piece, esp if you also have the Sazabi version.
I miss the days when TOM sold snacks. These were really cool looking snacks. My friends were really amazed by the "cheeseburger" details.
The Metal Build bots from Full Metal Panic are some of the nicest figures in the line. I love the military style mechs. Comes with tons of accessories which can all be stored neatly on the display stand in an armory style layout. Really cool.
Overlord is awesome and so is this nendo. This is quite a chunky figure with lots of details. Buy this and the nendo Albedo together.
Feels like a gashapon quality toy figure. Quite small and bit pricey.
Fight the power!
Kamina and Simon finally join Nendoroid Yoko. It's a nice display piece to accompany the Gurren Lagann robots.
I like these SHF SF figures for their articulation and styling. The Ryu figure was really excellent. Ken is more or less the same, but everything about this figure looks a bit lazy by comparison. The outfit isn't weathered or detailed like Ryu's. The gloves are plain. I know Ken is supposed to be a pretty boy but at least add a bit of dry brush details so when Ken and Ryu stand together they don't look like 2 different toy lines.
What is the point of the Cross Silhouette gimmick if these parts are sold separately?
This figure is stunning. Although a bit light due to the thin lanky frame, there is a decent amount of diecast where it counts, in the joints and the inner frame. The details are beautiful, the colors and paint are perfect, and the many accessories really adds to play/display value. I hope Bandai will make EVA Unit 02 soon.
This Art Graphics Char is amazing. I don't have many male figures, but Char is one I had to get. He's one of the greatest anti-hero/villain to exist in anime of all time. The paint on this is so cool, the extra touch of shading in this version really brings out more details in his suit. Love the alternate head option as well, as he looks so good in both forms, I had a tough time deciding which way to display him, finally settling for the hair showing version while holding the helmet in his hand. This is the best Char figure made-to-date.
These stasis figures don't have much impact when displayed alone, as I mentioned in Rei's review. Once paired, it starts to take on a theme, and has a nice presence next to some EVA figures. This Asuka fig is cool but not amazing, as the figure looks to be sleeping and floating in a stasis tank/tube. The paint is nice and clean but again, nothing special. I bought the Rei to display with the Metal Build EVA Unit-01, and now Asuka will join the display shelf. I hope there will be a Shinji version coming soon to complete the trio.
Good add-on for the Ninpulse Gundam. Glad I got it on sale though because there really isn't much to it.
This is a very cute SD Nightingale, which is a monstrosity in the Gundam franchise. The sculpt on this kit is quite good, and has lots of panel lines and decent color separation. However, paint is still needed to make it look good, especially on all the boosters underneath. Also, while the funnels are detachable, there are no effect parts or wires to help display them. While I like the look of the Cross Silhouette SD kits, seems like a wasted gimmick when the CS parts are not included with the kits, and a waste of plastic too when the SD parts are removed.
The designs from Mazinger Infinity really look amazing. A modern updated look to the classic designs, full of nice details and panel lines. Stands about 19cm when completed. Accessories include the Scrander and 2 swords and some alternate hands. Would have been 5 stars if it included some effect parts like HG Mazinger Z, at least some lightning effects. Overall, still an awesome kit, although price is somewhat high for a MG-sized HG kit.
The smirking face is the best, and really captures Sombra's attitude. All the added accessories are great. The hacking accessory can be a bit fragile, be careful when handling.
I find Hexa Gear interesting, because of the vehicles and the scale. Para-Pawn LAT Mirror is simple and can be completed under an hour. Some paint is required to look like official photos. The small limbs can be fiddly and fall apart during handling. Getting the female figures to stand in action poses may be challenging due to the small feet. I do find the figures a bit expensive for the size. On their own, the figures are just okay. Hexa Gear shines when paired with the vehicles.
Quality Overwatch Nendoroid as usual. The short arms limit the shooting poses you can make with the figure but that's just how nendos are. Soldier is a bit simple compared to other nendos such as Mei or Mercy.
While the idea of Gundam Girls have been around quite a long time now, this take on a Gundam Ship Girl is kinda...weird. It looked interesting, so I tried it. The skirt hinders the pose-ability a lot. And though it splits to allow some movement, it doesn't look right when split apart. The Archangel "ship mode" just looks awkward to me.
Bought these (3x) as gifts for my Star Wars friends, and they all loved it. The sculpt is amazing and detailed. Quite blown away by the details of the various armor parts. Bandai created something unique here, and while it may not be for everyone, the artistic take on feudal Japan style mashed with Star Wars characters are undeniably impressive on display.
Big fan of Kancolle Iowa. Her star lit eyes, ample bosom that can barely be contained, and adorable smile are all captured perfectly in this action figure. I think she might be my new favorite Kancolle figma (sorry, Mutsu!)
Tanya is a notorious character with lots of attitude and spunk. An anti-hero runt you are happy to have on your side of the war. The nendoroid portrays her perfectly. Especially dig the wicked smile face. Plenty of accessories too.
I do like the completed figure, but I feel Gohan is pricey for his size. He's the same size as Krillin, and shares 80% same body parts as well, aside from the feet and head. I wish they made the black haired version first, with the orange gi, instead of this one which is the color Gohan wore after training with Piccolo. For Figure-rise DBZ collectors, Gohan is likely a must-buy, but I wish it was much better for a $25 kit, which is on the high-end of HG 1/144 Gundam kits, and you get more with the Gundams.
The completed figure looks great, and I think, better than Figure-rise Goku. I like Vegeta's proportions better, I always felt Goku's arms look too short for his height. Good articulation, face options, hand options, and effect parts. I wish they included black hair parts as well.
Lafter and Azee get their Hyakurens converted to these ground units when they reach Earth. Very unique looking MS with a multi-camera head unit, a huge back skirt, and bell-bottoms. I think the pilots attributed much to the appeal of these suits.
I love the MS designs from Thunderbolt, and all the kits look great, but-
But they have so many stickers, and this one is no exception. Some are in awkward locations and may start peeling after a few weeks. This mass-produced Gundam looks quite interesting, due to the colors and lack of a typical V-fin (it has something like a U-fin instead). I really like the beam javelin weapon comes with this kit.
Julieta is one of the crazy antagonists in Gundam IBO. The initial MS she pilots is this somewhat generic Reginlaze. It is supposed to be an upgraded Graze, but I find the Graze's design more interesting and sleek. The next MS Julieta gets is even more interesting, the "Reginlaze Julieta". This kit is a simple and fast build. It's not bad at all. I just find it average looking and not memorable.
She's quite cute. Not a whole lot of accessories, but the price is also reasonable. Not as interesting as the battleships like Nagato or Mutsu, and not as unique as Shimakaze or Amatsukaze, but she is kind of a must have after watching the anime.
Satsuki's risque outfit is even racier than Ryuko's. It is quite accurate to the anime though. The face sculpts are perfect!
This is a must-have add-on set, if you already own the Soul of Chogokin Grendizer DC. Personally, I think this version is the best gokin Grendizer ever made. The Spazer is an iconic part of the show and integral to Grendizer. It really adds a nice touch when displayed together. I only wish there was more diecast used, since it is a "Chogokin". Be careful when placing Grendizer inside the Spazer to avoid scratches on the figure.
Compact and chunky classic robot with impressive weight and hand-feel. Articulation is limited to just arms and legs, and a (fake) waist swivel if you use the battery compartment access. Head does not move. The little Shotaro figure is not to scale but detailed nicely holding the remote. The paint finish is nice and bright, with some darkening airbrush around the joints and rivet details. This is the 4th(?) version of GX-24 to be released, after Standard, Metallic, and Naked (unpainted). All have light up LED eyes, but this newest R release also has a music and sound gimmick which is amusing.
It really looks like it walked out of the old anime from 1963.
If you are a gokin robot co...Read more
This is a must buy for all fans of FRANXX anime.
Just too cute. An excellent Nendoroid release- tons of accessories, and at least 3 faces.
Hope Good Smile makes a Hiro.
I felt Robot Spirits Strelizia was quite cumbersome to handle. The ball-jointed hair pieces would fall out, the large shoulders would knock into the large forearms, the connector that attached to the Tamashii Stage would pop off and the figure would drop. I would give that figure 2-Stars (didn't buy it at TOM though so no review here for Strelizia). Due to my experience with Strelizia, I almost cancelled Delphinium, but I'm glad I did not.
Delphinium is a joy to handle. The slim profile is more streamlined and lacks all the fiddly aspects of Strelizia. The big bulbous head doesn't have parts falling off constantly. The spears clip onto the forearms neatly. Overall, an enti...Read more
Almost as good as the standard Cu-poche Saber with the cloth robe (the robe was awesome).
This Alter version has elbows and knees (which Nendoroids only started adding recently). The magnetic base is another awesome idea because you don't need the included arm to steady the figure, unless you want a flying/jumping pose.
Cu-poche are about 11cm, slightly bigger compared to Nendos which are mostly under 10cm.
Flame Toys are putting out some amazing figures, and I finally know why.
It's Sen-Ti-Nel, under a different name for Transformers products. Their engineering has always been phenomenal, and these Flame Toys figures have all of that. The materials are great, the paint apps are perfect, LED gimmicks are super cool, and the sculpt is amazing!
These ARE quite expensive, but you'll know why once you hold one in your hand.
Looking forward to their next release, which is Star-Saber. I don't know why TOM did not list pre-orders for that one, since they had 01 Drift and 02 Tarn, and both sold out.
I don't know why I keep buying Hexa Gear figures, maybe because they really look cool, especially if you have some of the vehicles. I feel the plastic used may be slightly too soft, because the pegs tend to wear as you pose and play with them. You can tighten them up with some nail polish or small amounts of tacky, but it should be designed better. I keep buying them despite their issues because they provide a change of pace from gundams and they also look pretty awesome if you are willing to put in some work.
Expander comes with a ton of accessories which adds to the playability. He is the largest Hexa Gear character so far, super muscular like a heavy weapons brute.
He requir...Read more
My wife has a collection of cat plushies and these are among her favorite. Super cute proportions.
The figure is super sexy. The glossy red bodysuit and even glossier maroon boots look amazing and like actual latex. The metallic red cat mask really brings out the blue eyes through contrast. The body curves are sculpted perfectly. Tiny details such as the zippers and whip, as well as the twin hair tails, are all well done. The figure really lends to viewing in multiple angles and looks good on all sides.
So glad there was this reissue because I missed the first version with Black Base, and my friends that had it raved about it. It's a beautiful bishoujo figure, even for those who don't play Persona games, get this figure! Sexy cat girl!!
My only concern are the tiny zippe...Read more
My previous experience with the HiRM Wing Gundam was not a great one. I found the completed figure too delicate and had issues with parts falling off when posing the figure as well as other stability problems. But the Astray Red Frame is one of my favorite Gundams so I decided to give HiRM line another chance, and boy, is it good.
The kit is quite sturdy, and all the joints are tight on the inner frame which is very important. Astray Red Frame has also never looked this beefy, which is cool. It's an alternate take on this MS, and I like it. Since I own the SD kit, the RG 1/144, the MG 1/100, the NXEDGE, the MSIA, and 2 Metal Builds of this particular MS, the variation actually appe...Read more
Moon Gundam comes from a lesser known manga in the UC timeline, and I had never heard of it until this kit was announced. This Gundam was the precursor to the Sazabi, so it is larger than most 1/144 kits, but still not as big as Sazabi. Overall, this kit feels closer to RG/MG but in a HG scale. Just a solid kit with many accessories. I think it's a must-buy for Gunpla builders.
I really enjoyed this build, and love the end result of this Ogre GNX kit. It's a mash up of the HG GNX and HG Titus from Gundam AGE. It's not traditional looking at all which I think is the best thing about it. The colors are amazing. The melee weapons are all very cool. The downside to some might be the numerious stickers and the limited poseability.
This custom GM variant is super bright and orange. The weapons loadout on the shoulders and hips really make this GM look menacing on display. There are some issues with loose parts though, such as hands falling out too easily, as well as the weapon attachements on the lower legs. It was fine after adding some tac, but the hands issue was combersome. It's an okay kit, but one of the weaker releases of HGBD.
This is essentially the revised grunt suit MS of Build Divers similar to the GM. The assembly is simple without any special backpack or gimmicks, but ultimately a fun kit to handle and pose when completed. Straight assembly will take about 1 hour with some nub clean-up and sanding. The blue-grey tint has a military feel to it, and lends itself to easy color customization with some paint and detail colors. Sometimes the Gundams with too much going on can be a hassle to pose because it gets fiddly, but the beauty of this kit is in its simpicity.
Funko Pops are good inexpensive vinyl figures. You can display these anywhere and won't freak out if they get damaged or stolen. Got this one for a buddy who is a Hanzo main and he loved it.
I really like Tachikomas. Have a few larger ones and gokin versions, but I was looking for a Nendoroid version when I came across this little bugger. It is rather small but very nicely painted and detailed. A nice addition to the Tachikoma collection.
This GP-01Rb is even more amazing that the Sazabi and Nu Gundam before it. Bandai took it up to another level with all the extra opening hatches and LED effects. Such a cool and amazing display piece. It is expensive, but I have no regrets. Really hope they make a GP-02A as well.
HG Wing Gundam with flame motif. Pretty simple build for those familiar with HG kits. Decent color seperation. Has the Wing Gundam transformation gimmick as well, but I think it looks rather silly in "bird mode" with 2 Gundam legs sticking out. Other than that it is a cool looking Gundam. It's smaller than other 1/144 due to the fact Wing series mobile suits were around 15m rather than the common 18m of UC suits.
As long as the head is pushed down far enough, the neck doesn't look weird. However, even with the head fully attached, there is a section of hair that just does not sit flush , and floats 0.2cm from the surface. Perhaps the problem isn't the hair, but the straight arm is too long. Either way, something is off. Because Shiro is tiny, the 1/12 figure is quite small.
Got for the wife, pre-empted Valentine's Day. She really likes it. Got the female one with the bow and it's quite cute in hand.
These are adorable and cute, esp for frenchie fans. The attach easily enough, but sometimes the chain will come apart unexpectedly. Found it on the floor a few times.
This big Boo plush is adorable and will swoon and win over any fans of french bulldogs. Got it for my wife and she loved it.
Whether you liked Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans, the 1/100 kits are indisputably excellent. From the Gundam Barbatos to the lowly grunt Graze, all the kits contain inner frames that provide studiness. The Gundam Kimaris Booster Type is no exception. It has bulky shoulder armor and a backpack with boosters for high speed. The Kimaris was one of the major antagonist's MS in the show and it also evolved in stages as it fought against the Barbatos. Bottom line, IBO 1/100 kits are a must buy for Gundam fans.
I don't collect Marvel/DC hero figures, but I do like the Hulkbuster. I wanted this to display with the SHFxChogokin Hulkbuster Mark 44, after seeing all the rave reviews online. The first thing I noticed, Hulk is quite hefty for an all pastic figure at 300g. That's more than some Soul of Chogokin, such as the DC Mazinger Z. It's solid plastic. As for colors, Hulk's paint scheme is pretty simple, but there is a lot of shading to help define the musculature. The face sculpt is spot-on Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. By modern action figure standards, there are very few accessories. Hulk has 2 faces (one closed mouth, one open mouth roaring), and 2 sets of hands (fists, and open ...Read more
Awesome 1/7 fig of Zero Two. Her face sculpt is excellent. The hair is painted translucent plastic, so the light will shine through at the tips. The semi glossy bodysuit finish is well done, really allows the lighting to capture her curves. She's not too large of a figure despite being 1/7, due to the fact that she's more or less kneeling, and her left leg disappears into her pilot console.
This figure by GSC is superb. Iowa is simultaneously cute and sexy. The sculpt is spot on likeness of the damaged Iowa art from the game. Fantastic shading and damage details throughout. Only small gripe would be her "hat" doesn't firmly plug in and will fall out if the figure is turned sideways/upside-down. The damaged ship parts are well done and adds to the overall visual effect.
Very sexy and eye catching figure of Alisa from God Eater 2 game. Alisa is one of my favorite video game vixens, and I already own a few figures of hers. I do feel her face is a bit too round and cute compared to what she looks like in-game. Aside from that though, the figure is sculpted perfectly. I like the white swimsuit look better than the red swimsuit version. Her God Arc weapon also looks amazing. nicely painted and sculpted in metallic red, maroon, and black. I've heard that attempting to remove the vest from the torso may result in some color transfer so I did not attempt it.
Soft cover book with lots of full page illustrations. redjuice's art style is easy on the eyes and fun to look at.
Apparently. there is an entire line of these Eva Exhibition Limited figures- Asuka, Mai, Shinji, etc., all looking like they are in stasis sleep, floating in air or suspended in liquid. I was lucky enough to get my order in for this one of Rei, and... I think the figure is not bad. About the size of a figma or maybe a bit smaller. It's a replica of the life size Rei that was on display at the Eva Exhibition (look on Youtube). Rei's plugsuit is black and grey, with some green and red parts painted on. Her hair looks to be solid color without shading. Her face is simple and serene. I do feel the price was a bit high due to the "Limited Edition" aspect. For Eva fans, this is...Read more
My first 1/4 scale figure. First B-Style.
This is a lovely figure of one of my favorite female protagonists. I collect a lot of Gurren Lagann figures and robots and this is the scene stealer, because it's so large and sexy and you cannot help but admire it. My wife also loves how sassy Yoko is in the anime, so she can appreciate the likeness and attention to details in this figure.
It does take up a lot of display real estate, because Yoko is laying down. Be prepared to re-arrange your display space just to get her in there.
Great articulation.
Awesome alternate faces.
Excellent amount of optional hands.
Amazing price and value.
If SHF included a Kamehameha effect, would have been 6 stars.
When Bandai announced they were releasing a brand new SOC mold, featuring a 2 pilot robot in Spring of 2018, many collectors were hoping for something like Gurren Lagann or Godannar. When Zambo Ace was revealed, you could hear sighs of disappointment through social media. Since ZA was previously released as a stand-alone figure under Soul of Chogokin, it is not really a new robot, just a brand new redesigned version. ZA is 1/3 of a larger robot called Zambot 3. Since this figure also does not combine to form an even larger robot, some of that disappointment may be warranted. However, ZA is a good release.
It gets 4 Stars from me, because it is a smaller figure at 17cm, as well as on the ...Read more
The original SOC release of God Sigma has been out of reach for many collectors due to the after market prices. Luckily Bandai decided to give us a renewal version. I do have the original and yet, I wanted the Renewal due to the new accessories and deco changes. It is very similar to the original release, and still a great figure. The leg articulation is limited, but these massive SOC figures are not meant to be played with like toys. It's more about the engineering and combination gimmick. If you are a collector of diecast robots, this is a muct-have in your collection. It is definitely in the Top 5 of SOC Combining robots: Voltron, GaoGaiGar, God Sigma, Godmars, Daltanius.
Got this as a gift for someone, and I personally have the Mazinger faced version. These feel very premium in hand due to the diecast, and the quality is amazing. It's a perfect collector's item for Hello Kitty fans.
I was very surprised by how easy it is to pose this figure. She is also very well balanced, and can get into many action poses without using the stand. The small details and well done, especially her 2 faces and expressions. The figure is quite small though, even if she is smaller than other characters from Grand Order, it is about 1/13 scale and looks slightly smaller than she should be next to figma Saber. The price is quite high, considering what you get. If it wasn't for TOM's awesome coupons and points promos, I would have never purchased this.
If I hadn't heard about the Revival version of Pegasus Seiya, I prob wouldn't have bought any other Revival Saint Cloth Myth. The original release is commmanding too much money on the secondary market, so I'm glad Bandai decided to "revive" the older figures of the main cast with improvements. Pegasus Seiya is prob the most recognised and most iconic of all the characters from the show. The series IS named after him, after all. I was so excited to put the armor on the figure, and was really nostalgic in hand. Very happy to finally own a Cloth Myth Pegasus Seiya.
Let me first state, I'm not a big fan of Revoltech joints. They are awkward to pose, and manipulate. I've owned a number of Revoltechs in the past and eventually sold them when I found better versions of the characters. However, Gurren Lagann is one of my all time favorites, so I wanted at least one Revoltech version. The toy is solid in terms of durability. You don't have to worry too much about breakage if handling as an adult. The painted details are not perfect but decent enough. Comes with Gurren Wing, Simon's drill key, and some other hand options. For the price point it is not bad, but if you could afford the Super Robot Chogokin, it is a better value in terms of q...Read more
Nice cheaper smaller alternative to the Metal Build (which I also have), but I can leave this kit on my desk and pose it all day without worry about wearing out the joints on the pricey MB. It requires some effort with fixing a few seams and paint to make it look as good as the MB, otherwise the colors are a bit duller. Nonetheless an excellent kit from Bandai.
My wife loves frenchies so she loves carrying her new tote everywhere. It's very roomy and can fit everything. She's getting compliments about how cute it is, so that's bonus points for me.
Mercy joins Mei and Tracer in Nendoroids. These OW figures are too cute. Very tempted to get at least 1 of each character.
These kits are great. They have inner frames like MG kits, just slightly less detailed and fewer actual parts. The color separation is not as perfect as MG, but it's also cheaper than MG, so it's forgivable. Barbatos Lupus Rex is a sick suit with enlongated arms and claws, a harpoon tail, and a super sized lance type weapon. Def buy it if it ever comes back in stock.
Andromeda Shun looks cool, the metallic pink armor actually looks amazing, especially against the teal limb parts. The figure loses much of the waist svivel once armored up. The chains on the forearms are pretty cool. Weighs more than Phoenix Ikki despite being 1cm shorter, so there is a decent amount of diecast in the armor parts. I have an issue with one of the shoulder armor pieces. It just won't stay plugged in and will fall off the shoulder if you touch the figure, adjust the arm, or turn it upside down. A bit disappointing considering these are not cheap figures, you'd expect better QC from Bandai.
The first combining action figure of Gravion, and it is quite good. Sentinel did a remarkable job engineering the anime magic into an actual toy. It stands 23cm combined, and weighs over 650g (about same as SOC Gipsy Danger), which is a decent size and weight for a diecast robot figure.
The face sculpt is on point and looks perfect. Most of the diecast is in the G-Attacker/G-Striker (legs), and the torso area, so the figure is quite stable with lower center of gravity. The transformation/combination gimmick is well done, and doesn't take long to complete. Gran Kaiser (main body unit) is an excellent figure by itself. The combined God Gravion is amazing to look at, which tons of scu...Read more
Volte V is a fun figure, has amazing articulation that will allow you to do almost any action pose you can think of. The paint finish is also quite good. The glossy blue is deep and striking, the reds pop, and the metallic silver is clean and silky. The diecast content is also decent, weigh a bit more than SRC Mazinkaiser. Depite all these good attributes, it doesn't quite live up to Soul of Chogokin standards. It feels like Super Robot Chogokin PLUS. It was an odd decision by Bandai to put these F.A. (Full Action) figures into its SOC line. They removed the combination gimmick of Voltes V to allow incredible articulation, which was what the SRC line was all about. Placing this figure...Read more
My first Saint Cloth Myth figure, because Bandai decided to "revive" these older Bronze Cloth figures with some improvements (the original releases are quite pricey now). I do love the way Phoenix Ikki looks on display. The armor is shiny and beautiful, and you will get fingerprints all over it if your hands aren't clean and dry. A large percent of the armor parts are die-cast, which gives Ikki some heft once he is armored up. However, when you start posing the figure is when the problems start happening. Part of the hip skirt might pop off, the shin armor might slide down, the shoulder armor might pop out. Then you spend a minute putting it back, only for the same to happen ...Read more
Zeta Gundam is quite popular, because it can transform into a plane like "Wave Mode". Many of the model kits made were floppy and not fun, because the joints would loosen as you transformed it, this was the case with the MG, RG, and other older kits. The recent HGUC 1/144 kit resolved this by taking away the perfect transformation, so it required parts-forming. The Metal RS Zeta Plus C1 really nailed it. The joints are diecast and tight! Actually so tight it is scary the first time you transform it. It poses awesome and sturdy in both modes. I hope Bandai will make a Metal RS in the standard Zeta Gundam colors as well.
The color separation on these kits are quite good. Sometimes better than the HG. However, I feel the whole frame swap gimmick is just a cash in by Bandai. We have so many SD kits already, why not just sell these with the Silhouette Frame included instead of the SD frame? Also a waste of plastic for the extra unused plastic.
These kits are amusing due to the gimmick that you can build it 2 ways: traditional "SD", or slightly larger "CS" ala NXEDGE size. This RX-78-2 comes with both the SD and CS frame. When you're done, you're left with extra frame parts. The other SDCS kits do not include the CS frame, only the SD frame. So if you want to make it larger... you gotta buy another CS frame kit. Bandai, why not just make this a CS scale line? We already have a ton of SD kits out there made by... Bandai! Basically, you are paying 1/144 scale price for an in-between scale figure, and left over with extra frame parts each time.
Wifey is a huge CCS fan. When I surprised her with this Kero-chan plush she was very happy. It's larger than expected for the price, so it makes a nice impression. It also sits very easily because it is quite stuffed with filling, and not flimsy at all. It's an excellent gift for CCS fans.
This is a character from an old anime that I'm vaguely familiar with, as I only caught reruns of it as a little kid in Asia, by which time it was over-shadowed by some other little-known robot show called Mazinger Z. However, I've heard so much rave reviews of the figure on forums, I had to obtain one for my collection.
This figure has perhaps the most striking metallic paint I've ever seen in person. It really looks like the paint is still wet. Just amazing. Downside is the articulation is limited in the elbows, hips, and knees. You're not going to be able to display this is hyper action poses. However, the figure's goal is to be anime accurate and eye-catching ...Read more
Metal Robot Spirits are revamped versions of the old toy, not simply adding diecast joints, but improved sculpt, details, and paint/finish. Lancelot Albion looks amazing, has eye-catching chrome gold, clear teal green parts, and pearly whites. My only complaint about this figure is that it is not bigger. For the price, you'd expect a larger figure more along the size of recent Super Robot Chogokin Mazinger Zero. It does come with plenty of accessories and a display stand, which does make up and justify the pricing.
Another excellent nendoroid for Overwatch. All OW nendos have additional articulation (elbows, knees) which other nendos did not have. D.Va looks super cute and ready to pew pew.
Bandai has done a pretty good job with their D.C. reboot, retooling the classic Go Nagai SOC to a more sleek, anime-accurate depiction, also removing some aesthetic problems from the older releases, like very visible seam lines or screw holes on the back side. The feedback from fans have been lukewarm with the D.C. Mazingers (complains about being too skinny), and Getter-1 (ugly grey color), but Grendizer is getting praises in every aspect. The head sculpt, imo, is the best Grendizer head I've seen on a diecast toy. Also, he is heftier than his predecessors. The Spazer is released separately.
Bandai Metal Builds are among the most sought after diecast robots, and they've knocked it out of the park again. Few years ago, they made an amazing Laevatein and fans clamored for the Arbalest form the anime, and here it is. The sculpt and colors are spot on to the show. It feels nice and hefty thanks to the diecast joints and inner frame. Some joints are super tight out of the box, but that's nothing to really complain about.
The OW nendos have been amazing. Added elbow and knee joints that never existed on nendos before. My only complaint would be, wished they made a stiffer support arm for the dragon ultimate effect because the thin one that is included will flop down from the lightest touch due to the weight of the effect piece. Other than that, excellent details and likeness on Hanzo, usual well made product by Good Smile Company.
5PRO has created a magnificent toy of Astroganger, and it is amazing. I'm glad TOM sold it because it was almost impossible to find at MSRP. Perhaps I got lucky because only older mecha fans would know what this is. FAKE Color is a tribute to the knock-off that most kids had while growing up, due to its accessibility (sold everywhere) and cheaper price. The figure has shot up in resale value almost overnight due to the limited production and rarity.
In the 70's it was okay to advertise cigarettes to kids. Although the intention behind Gold Lightan cartoon was not sinister, it sure made kids want a reason for carrying those shiny gold lighters. The show did not take itself seriously, as GL would morph from a hand-sized robot to one that is as tall as buildings. In between battles, it would help the main character do his homework. The reissue SOC is perhaps the 4th or 5th version of this mold, but this time, plated in beautiful 24K gold. It's quite stunning and bling, and handling with gloves is highly recommended, unless you don't mind fingerprints. I can foresee this version going up in value past the older SOC versions, ...Read more
The face looks a bit asymmetrical and weird to me but the wife loves it so it's fine. It's a cute line of cats. Someday she will have all the different cats but right now Takeru is her favorite.
I'm enjoying the SHF Street Fighter line, with a few exceptions (ahem Cammy). Akuma is the best figure so far. The figure has presence, and brings back memories of being at the arcade and putting down quarters to play. The SHF fighting body is able to pull off almost all the moves from the game. I know some toy photographer geeks and they all love this Akuma figure.
There are Ingram model kits from Koto and Bandai, Ingram diecast toys from Yamato and CM's, Ingram action figures like Revoltech, but nothing compares to the Robot Spirits in terms of value. It has the most fun factor for your dollar. Highly recommend getting 2 sets so you can have both main Ingrams from Patlabor simultaneously. Tons of accessories, including a command car, and some enemy drones. The figure is wonderfully accurate to the source, and truly invokes nostalgia.
The clear swappable parts for the back of the head, and the back of the GN drive really help the eyes and chest light-pipe "glow". Looks awesome if your NXE Exia is displayed in front of, or near, a light source.
Could be this unit that I got, but it is unlike the other NXEDGE in my collection. The neck joint is very loose and floppy, and Exia tends to tilt the head forward as if looking down. The shoulder armor is of softer material and pops off when I'm adjusting the arm position. Quite unfortunate, as Exia is one of my favorite Gundam designs, but the NXEDGE version is flawed.
My first Cu-poche. Quite impressed. All the details are well done. The fabric robe is a nice touch. The magnetized feet and display stand thing is cool, helps the figure stay upright without an annoying clip or peg. Cupoche is slightly larger than Nendoroids and offer more poseability (elbow and knee joints), but some people find the Nendos cuter. I know Kotobukiya Cu-poche is now on my radar.
I collect some NXEDGE, not all, so in comparison to earlier NXE figures, I feel it's pretty good. Front colors are good, back side however, is lacking. Bandai did a lazy repaint of the Rebuild Unit 01 to give us the TV Ver., and it's especially evident in the head, which is very inaccurate. Not many people will notice these details, so it may not matter to you. It does look pretty cool on display as a desk toy.
Missed this figure the first time around. The little cola-drinking, gaming addict is just adorable. Not super articulated but she's not very "active" anyway in this form. This figure brings a smile to your face every time you see it.
The Overwatch nendos are some of the best articulated nendos in the line. Good Smile finally made knee joints! Colors and details are spot-on, even for these chibi figures. Will be very difficult to resist collecting every OW nendo.
Cool shirt with a simple "76" graphic, means nothing to those who don't play Overwatch, but you get that nod of acknowledgement from other players, kinda funny when wearing the shirt.
We have an orange tabby cat at home so the wife loves pushies that remind her of him.
Of the Robot Spirits Pacific Rim figures, this one is in the top 3 of the available figures, after Gipsy Avenger and Obsidian Fury. It's a bit smaller than Gipsy, standing 6.3" and much lighter in weight. Articulation is excellent, although some of the joints are small and somewhat loose, so parts like the hands may fall off while posing the figure. I feel Saber Athena is plain-looking, with plenty of orange and not much contrast. If you are good at Gundams, I recommend doing some panel-lining and painting to bring the figure more to film accuracy. Out-of-box, it is a decent toy. But on display next to some better Robot Spirits, or Chogokins, it looks downright boring.
When you consider that this GaoGaiGar stands only 14cm, and perhaps only 1/4 the parts count, yet costs as much as some Bandai MG kits, it makes you wonder. Turns out, Super Mini Pla kits are made in limited runs, so they may reissue, and they may not. I had missed out on the first run of SMP GGG and was delighted when I saw them for pre-order again. The completed figure looks okay as out-of-box build with stickers (no paint). But with some effort with paint can make it look close to the Super Robot Chogokin on display. The transformation is more about parts-swapping, but the final result is a sturdier GGG. I'm hoping they reissue the Goldymarg set as well.
What a piece of junk. Fell to pieces out of the box. Loose joints all over. Arm falls off at the shoulder just from posing with the gun. Materials look and feel cheap in hand. It's crazy that officially licensed Robotech merch looks like some KO dollar store toy in hand. Toynami continues to produce crap for their fans. Very disappointed.
This might be one of the most amazing diecast robots I've held in hand. The sculpt and finish is phenomenal. The LED gimmick is pretty cool. Some people may complain about this Transformer not transforming, but when you see the details and the love put into the design of Drift, you'll understand. Flame Toys has started off on their new line of diecast Transformers with a winner. Definitely in Top 5 robot releases of 2018.
This figure is worth $50. Lots of details on her outfit. Excellent articulation. Awesome action figure overall. I wasn't even thinking of collecting Overwatch figmas, but when TOM had it on sale for $34 it was too good to pass up. Really well made figure and fun to pose in all of Tracer's signature moves.
I was curious about Desktop Army so got one to check it out.
-It's cute
-Accessories are nicely detailed
-Decent articulation
-Needs some paint to look like the promo pics
-Pricey for a 3" toy
You can get a great HG 1/144 Gundam for the same price or less. Don't think I'll be getting another.
This is my current favorite Mazinger Z figure. It looks modern and detailed, and looks just like it did in the movie.
Everything is painted perfectly. The blue/purple paint has a metallic sheen which changes tone depending on the angle you view it. Comes with tons of accessories and even effect parts. It's different from Soul of Chogokin, which offers a more classic anime look. This figure will definitely go up in value and demand real quickly.
Has good articulation for those cool melee poses, as well as purple effect parts to enhance the display. Really fun kit for the price.
It's a fun kit from Kotobukiya. Needs paint to look accurate though. It's a 3.5" SD figure for over $30, so might not be for everyone aside from Votoms fans.
This is a spectacular figure of Akira from Yamato 2202. From the metallic red of her skin tight suit to the twist of her hips as she ascends the steps, this figure is quite eye-catching. The paint and finish on this figure is much better than Megahouse's previous efforts in the Yamato Girls Collection. An excellent addition to any 1/8 scale figure collection.
It's a good price and deal for a 1/100 Gundam stand. Takes about 5-10 minutes to assemble. There are a few pieces I'm concerned about, such as the peg parts that go into the base. They are hollow and seem rather fragile. If the kit you are displaying has some extra weight, such as a MG Strike Freedom or MG Justice Gundam, might be a bit tricky to keep it balanced. For some poses, the peg seem to be stressed a bit and has a risk of popping out, or breaking, and your Gundam could fall over. It works well for now but I'm concerned about the stress over time.
This is a unique version of Rei from Evangelion based on artwork by Shunya Yamashita. It's not meant to look like her anime appearance, but a more fantasy "real world" version. The facial expression is perfect and stunning. The outfit's glossy vs matte finish looks amazing. My wife even complimented the design of the figure, and she doesn't do that often. Looking forward to other EVA figures from Shunya and Flare.
This is the latest and greatest DX Soul of Chogokin to hit the market. Bandai's top of the line super robot toy line has made a true masterpiece. This Combattler V is just beautiful, a work of toy art. The bright glossy painted diecast, the combining sound effects, the LED light-up eyes, everything is amazing. If you're a collector of super robots, this one is a must-have.
Released at the end of 2017, the GM Sniper Custom was a great way to end the year for Gunpla builders. It's similar to the excellent MG 1/100 GM Sniper II kit from earlier in 2017, but with new armor and backpack, as well as additional accessories and weapons. This kits has excellent range of poseability and balance, and will hold action poses flawlessly. Sometimes I just want a MG kit that's not a Gundam with a huge backpack with 50 moving wing and funnel parts. There is a design elegance to the simplicity of the grunt suits, and this GM Sniper Custom checks all the boxes that define a great model kit.
Nendoroid Satsuki from Kill la Kill is fantastic. The chibi sculpt is prefect, and reflects her persona from the anime perfectly. She comes with a stair platform for poses, and the backdrop holder helps create the feeling of Satsuki looking down on you from up high. This is a wonderful figure to accompany the Ryuko nendoroid and a must-have for Kill la Kill fans.
Thank goodness for a reissue, as these Kill la Kill nendoroids were going at a premium on the secondary market. As usual. Good Smile does an impressive job on these small chibi figures. Ryuko's faces all look great, and definitely invokes the sassy character from the anime. I missed my chance at the first release and was very happy to finally get this Ryuko nendoroid as at good price. Do not miss it if you are a Kill la Kill fan, as 3rd production runs are very unlikely for nendoroids.
This is a reissue of SOC GX-13 from 2003 with a new coat of paint. There are a few new improvements, but overall the design of the figure shows its age, such as limited articulation, balance issues (it's back heavy), and plastic hip joints instead of diecast. Improvements include a re-sculpted non-transforming head, re-sculpted shoulder armor, new connectors for Gundor on the back of Big Moth. Dancouga feels nice in hand, at over 1kg in combined mode. It also looks impressive standing on any shelf at 26.5cm at top of the head. Despite the age of the design, and not quite up to par with the more recent SOC releases, this is still a highly coveted collector's item for mecha fans.
I don't know why TOM has not revised the title of the product, it would be sold out if people knew what it was. Excellent kit, in 1/144 scale. Barbatos Lupus Rex looks awesome with the claws and the massive spike weapon. This, and the Barbatos Lupus with the red shoulders, are among 2 of the best 1/144 HG kits I've come across.
I ordered this despite the vague name that makes it difficult to figure out exactly what you're getting. It's the Reginlaze Julia, the larger, revamped version of the standard Reginlaze. Cool kit when completed, comes with a stand.
Cool looking kit. Reminds me of Shovel Knight or a Tauren. Great for customization.
This thing is incredible on display. The entire figure is covered in beautiful silver paint with red, black, and gunmetal accents. For something the size of a Super Robot Chogokin you would not expect so many fine and sharp (literally) details. It also comes with a display stand with silver lettering similar to the stands for Metal Build Gundams. Transformation wasn't overly complex, but it requires some patience, otherwise one of its sharp horns might scratch you, or the paint.
To clarify a misinformation in another review, it actually does say Chogokin on the box, it's in Japanese "超合金", top left above the words "Tamashii Mix". It...Read more
