Synopsis

Yayoi Sakamoto is a high school girl who loves comedy and transfers to Kazuki High School in Namba, where she reunites with her childhood friend Yomogi Takahashi, with whom she formed the comedy duo Konamonzu when they were younger. The two decide to get back into the comedy game and form a new group called Young Wai-Wai together with new member Yuzu Hosono. Together, they will aim for the top of the comedy world!

Background

Teppen—!!! started as a manga series written by Inujun and illustrated by Namamugi taht is based on Seiyu San-Shimai Team Y, a unit formed by voice actresses Mikoi Sasaki, Aimi, and Ayasa Ito. It has been serialized in Bushiroad's Monthly Bushiroad shonen manga magazine since January 2021. As of January 2022, two collected tankobon volumes have been published.

A TV anime adaptation titled Teppen—!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was announced in January 2021. It is being produced by Drive and features Shinji Takamatsu as chief director and Toshinori Watanabe as director, with Jun Kumagai handling series composition and scripts, Yoshiyuki Okubo handling character designs, and TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND handling the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Teppen— Tengoku TOP OF THE LAUGH!!!” by the 15 members of the main cast as Teppen— All Stars, and the ending theme song is "Ahatte Teppen” by May’n. The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2022.

Young Wai-Wai

Yayoi Sakamoto Voiced by: Ayasa Ito)
Yayoi is a bright and cheerful girl who loves comedy and acts as the funny man. She transfers from Kyoto to Kazuki High School in Namba, Osaka, where she reunites with her childhood friend Yomogi, with whom she used to be a comedy duo called Konamonzu. She invites Yuzu to join them, and the trio form the comedy unit Young Wai-Wai.

Yomogi Takahashi Voiced by: Aimi)
Yomogi is the straight man of the group and is childhood friends with Yayoi, with whom she used to be a comedy duo called Konamonzu. She is a reliable girl who helps out at her family’s restaurant Takohashi while pursuing comedy. She has a younger brother named Yoshihiro who is in elementary school and twin sisters named Rine and Miki who are in kindergarten.

Yuzu Hosono Voiced by: Mikoi Sasaki)
Yuzu is the group’s obtuse funny man. She is a self-proclaimed comedy researcher who transfers from Iwate to Osaka to study comedy. She enjoys writing scripts for manzai acts and is in charge of coming up with material for Young Wai-Wai. When she gets excited, her Iwate accent comes out.

Dangan Kunoichi

Kana Kiyotsuru Voiced by: Aina Aiba)
Kana is the youngest member of the group. She has an unusual personality and is high strung and positive. She is scouted to join the group by Chitose and Iroha because of her interesting personality.

Chitose Amano Voiced by: Honoka Kuroki)
Chitose aims to become the number 1 straight man in Japan. She is stoic when it comes to comedy and always puts in effort. However, her efforts don’t always pan out.

Iroha Akishika Voiced by: Mayu Sagara)
Iroha was originally a sports girl who liked baseball, but she got tired of being unable to compete against boys due to their differences in physique. She forms a group with Chitose when she realizes that comedy is a game in which men and women can compete on equal footing without handicaps. Her motto is “hard work and perseverance.”

Celebri-Tea

Saeka Yabukita Voiced by: Saika Kitamori)
Saeka is the daughter of a large conglomerate that runs one of Japan’s leading tea-leaf producing companies. She is such a high-calibur celebrity that it’s rumored that she always travels by hired car or helicopter. Though she has no bad intentions, her upbringing has made her far removed from the financial sense of the average person, meaning she sometimes says rude things without realizing it.

Hikari Jogasaki Voiced by: Yuki Wakai)
Hikari’s father runs a long-established confectionery company in Aichi Prefecture. Although she is a celebrity in the general sense, she is in a delicate position in which it’s hard to squeeze out her rich girl character in front of Saeka. Her family allows her to perform comedy on the condition that she promotes their company during her act.

Mako Shirakabe Voiced by: Riko Kohara)
Mako is the self-proclaimed daughter of the president of a large corporation. She has a fondness for expensive things and is a tremendous glutton. She does her best to match Saeka and Hikari. There are rumors that she is secretly working part-time in the shadows…

Akudare Okoku

Miyu Komatsuzaki Voiced by: Megu Sakuragawa)
Miyu is a funny man who loves her hometown. Even during her act, she excessively emphasizes the merits of Ibaraki and her favorite things about it, and her goal is to make Ibaraki the capital of Japan. She is a diehard Mito Komon fan and plans to produce a Hollywood version of the show someday.

Misao Ushiku Voiced by: Moe Toyota)
Misao is a straight man who has androgenious features and a strong tone of voice. She is treated as a handsome guy by girls and is often confessed to. She is classmates with Miyu and Hina.

Hina Kasama Voiced by: Himari Hazuki)
Hina is a funny man who is introverted and talks in a low voice and whispers. She is overly negative about Ibaraki and is always self-deprecating. However, she never allows those from other prefectures to disparage Ibaraki, so it seems that deep down she actually loves Ibaraki.

Shinryakusha

Yuina Rokkatei Voiced by: Nanae Kojima)
Yuina plays the role of an alien named Jupitoris Naru Naru Neiji Yuina who came to Earth to warn humans of an impending crisis. She decided to play an alien character because she thought being herself wouldn’t work for comedy. However, she has a hard time remembering her backstory and honestly regrets the decision.

Mone Ishiya Voiced by: Aina Suzuki)
Mone plays a guardian of Earth who, though initially opposed to Yuina, eventually joins her in her fight. She loves sci-fi and anime and is the only member of the group who is excited about the alien setting. Her family runs a dairy farm and she has drank milk since she was young, but despite that she isn’t growing taller.

Chihori Hokuto Voiced by: Momoyo Koyama)
Chihori is a slightly mysterious girl who transfered into Yuina and Mone’s class not long ago. For some reason, she talks about Mars and Venus like it’s common knowledge. She has a unique, otherworldly sense of humor. She seems to be hiding something…
