Atsushi Kamiya is the former captain of the Kakegawa High School soccer team and a world-class player who played for a prestigious Italian team. Hideto Tsuji is a student attending Kakegawa High School who keeps his distance from the now-weakened soccer team. A new legend will begin when these two meet…

Background

The Shoot! series began as a manga written and illustrated by Tsukasa Oshima that was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine manga magazine from 1990 to 2003. It was published in 33 collected tankobon volumes. In 1994, the series won the 18th Kodansha Manga Award in the shonen category, and in February 2019, the series surpassed 50 million copies in print.

In 1993, the series was adapted into a TV anime titled Aoki Densetsu Shoot!. It was produced by Toei Animation (Digimon Adventure, Dragon Ball, Galaxy Express 999) and featured Daisuke Nishio (Dr. Slump, Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, Pretty Cure) as director. The anime aired from November to December of the following year on Fuji TV and spanned 58 episodes.

A new anime adaptation titled Shoot! Goal to the Future is in the works and is being produced by EMT Squared (Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar, Nyanko Days). It is being directed by Noriyuki Nakamura (Captain Tsubasa: Asu ni Mukatte Hashire!, Dragon Slayer, Itsudatte My Santa!) and features Jun'ichi Kitamura (Cells at Work! Code Black, Kumamiko - Girl meets Bear, My Wife is the Student Council President) as assistant director, Mitsutaka Hirota (Bonobono, Rent-A-Girlfriend, So I'm a Spider, So What?) as series composer, and Yukiko Akiyama (Black Cat, Fantastic Detective Labyrinth, Puzzle & Dragons X) as character designer. The anime’s opening theme song is "Aoreido" by Airi Miyakawa, and the ending theme song is "Rivals" by All at Once. The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2022 on Tokyo MX, AT-X, and other channels and will be streamed overseas through Crunchyroll.
