OtapediaYuko Miyamura Voice Actress

Yuko Miyamura (born December 4, 1972) is a Japanese voice actress, singer, sound director and actress. She is originally from Kobe in Hyogo prefecture. She has an extensive history in the media and entertainment industry. She is most well-known in the anime world for being the voice actress for her part as Kazuha Toyama in the Detective Conan series and Asuka Langley Soryu/Shikinami in the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchises anime and movies.

Personal Life

Miyamura’s first marriage was to Nakatani D a famous manga artist from 1998 to 1999. Later Miyamura married stuntman Takayuki Seki in the year 2004. She had two children and lived in Melbourne, Australia until she ended her marriage in divorce and returned back to Japan.

In 2007, Miyamura was diagnosed with Graves' disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. During this time Miyamura wasn’t in the best physical state which affected her performances in characters she had a leading role in such as Kazuha Toyama in the Detective Conan series.

Start of Voice Acting Career

Miyamura was born in Kobe, Hyogo prefecture and graduated from the theater division at Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music. She made her voice actress debut in the globally popular game ‘Street Fighter’. In 1995, she got her big break with the parts playing Hinagiku Tamano in Wedding Peach and Asuka Langley Soryu in Evangelion.

One of her most famous and memorable lines in an anime is ‘Anta Baka?!’ (are you stupid!?) as Asuka in Evangelion. The demeaning line that Asuka would say to the main character of Evangelion, Shinji Ikari came to be a trademark line of the series.

In an interview, Miyamura was asked about her first encounter with the Evangelion franchise. She stated that she originally went to the audition for the part of Rei Ayanami and not Asuka. Still new to the voice acting industry and coming from a theatre background, she only knew how to strongly project her voice. A voice that didn’t match Rei, but instead was perfect for the part of Asuka.

Miyamura continued to play Asuka after the TV series in all the following movies, OVAs, games etc. Most recently as a cameo in the TV anime series ‘Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion’ and in the newest Evangelion movie, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 due to release in 2020.

Music History

In addition to her voice acting, Miyamura also had a very successful music career. She released her first solo single in July 21, 1995 through Victor entertainment called ‘Koi wo Surunara’ and her first solo album titled ‘Kenka Bancho’ in June 21, 1996, also with Victor. She would go on to release 14 albums and 9 singles.

Miyamura also featured in many collaborations with famous Japanese artists such as P-Model, Susumu Hirasawa, and Pizzicato Five vocalist Yasuharu Konishi. She also made remake songs of classical music and join a duo with Chiyomaru Shikura in a group called loose@rouse.

Game Voice Over History

As an all-rounder voice actress, Miyamura has also found fame in the gaming industry where she has an extensive resume of games that she participated in. She is the voice of Chun-Li for a large number of Street Fighter games. Not to mention playing all the voices for Asuka Langley Soryu in all Evangelion games to date. In total, the pure number of games she has worked in are higher than the number of TV anime series and films she has participated on nearly all game platforms and consoles.
