In addition to the voice actors of the main characters in the Evangelion series, there are many other famous voice actors and actresses that have played a large role in the success of the anime and stayed with the franchise for so many years. Here are some of the voice actors/actresses that play a role as a supporting character.

Fumihiko Tachiki

Fumihiko Tachiki is born on April 29, 1961. He is a Japanese voice actor and narrator from Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan. Tachiki is well known for having a low voice and played the role of Gendo Ikari, the Commander of NERV in the Evangelion franchise. He made his debut as a voice actor in the TV anime series "Holy Warrior Dunbine" in 1983. In addition to Japanese anime and games, he has played roles as a dubbing actor for international movies, animations and also had narration roles on commercials.

Yuriko Yamaguchi

Yuriko Yamaguchi is born on November 21, 1965, She is a Japanese voice actress and narrator from Osaka Prefecture, Japan. She is currently with Aoni Production and she plays Ritsuko Akagi, the chief scientist at NERV in the Evangelion franchise. Besides from playing Ritsuko, she is also well known for her roles as Nico Robin in One Piece, and being the successor to the voice of Nurse Joy in the Pokemon franchise. Previous to her break as Ritsuko in Evangelion, she had little experience in the voice acting industry. She had most of her experience in stage acting as an actress touring around stages in Germany and Asia.

Motomu Kiyokawa

Motomu Kiyokawa is born on April 9, 1935. He is a Japanese actor and voice actor from Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. In the Evangelion franchise, he plays the role of the sub-commander of NERV, Kozo Fuyutsuki. He is the oldest voice actor in the Evangelion cast and has continued his role even in the most recent Evangelion Rebuild movies.

Koichi Yamadera

Koichi Yamadera is born on June 17, 1961. He is a Japanese actor, narrator and singer from Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. In the Evangelion franchise he plays the role of Ryoji Kaji. Yamadera’s break to fame was when he had a leading role in the classic anime ‘Ranma ½’, taking on two roles of Ryouga Hibiki and the Jusenkyo Guide. He is also well known for his roles in Ninja Scroll as Jūbei Kibagami, Cowboy Bebop as Spike Spiege, Dragon Ball Super as Beerus and Anpanman as Cheese. In addition to anime voice acting, he has claimed the dubbing roles of famous Hollywood movies such as Jim Carrey and Eddie Murphy in their films.

Akira Ishida

Akira Ishida is born on November 2, 1967. He is a Japanese actor and voice actor from Aichi Prefecture, Japan. In the Evangelion franchise he has the role of the Fifth Child and Angel, Kaworu Nagisa. From his early age he had an interest in anime and voice acting watching classic series such as Gundam. Making his professional debut in 1990, Ishida became famous due to his unique voice that had the ability to voice a large range between ‘young boy’ to ‘’adult man’. Through this he has received many roles that involved a ‘mysterious’ character. Fans called this the ‘Ishida Voice’. In 2004, he received the ‘Most Popular Voice Actor’ award at the Animage Anime Grand Prix. He also won the ‘Best Supporting Character (male)’ award at the first Seiyu Awards in 2007.

In the voice acting industry in Japan, it is natural for voice actors or actresses of the main role to sing the opening song. Ishida openly came forward that he didn’t have confidence in singing, and is one of the few voice actors that avoids taking on any anime song projects.
