Synopsis

After parting ways with his former classmates, Hajime’s party heads for a Great Labyrinth to obtain Ancient Magic. The party has overcome various trials and has steadily gained strength in order to return to their world, but behind the scenes, the Demons are making disturbing moves. A shadow and a mysterious figure hiding in darkness creep into the royal capital. Just who is the true enemy that stands before them? The second season of the “strongest” otherworldly fantasy is about to begin!

Background

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest is a light novel series that began as a web novel in 2013 when it was first published to the user-generated content site Shosetsuka ni Naro. Eleven volumes plus five side stories and one short story have been published as of April 2021. The light novel is published under the Overlap Bunko imprint in Japan and has been licensed for English release in North America through Seven Seas Entertainment and J-Novel Club.

A manga adaptation by RoGa debuted in 2016 and has since been serialized on Ovelap’s Comic Gardo magazine. Eight tankobon volumes have been published as of April 2021, and the manga has been licensed for English release in North America through Seven Seas Entertainment. There is also a yonkoma comedy spinoff by Misaki Mori titled Arifureta: I Heart Isekai and an adaptation of the prequel novel Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest Zero by Ataru Kamichi, each of which is also licensed by Seven Seas.

The second season of the anime adaptation was announced after the first season’s finale. The anime is being produced by asread and Studio Mother and features Akira Iwanaga (Corpse Party Missing Footage, Kingdom, Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee) replacing Kinji Yoshimoto as director, with Shoichi Sato (Corpse Party: Tortured Souls, Itsudatte My Santa!, Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight) handling series composition and scripts, Chika Kojima (Big Order, The Future Diary, Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory) credited as character designer and chief animation director, and Ryo Takahashi (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., Classroom of the Elite, Sk8 the Infinity) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Daylight” by MindaRyn. The anime will premiere in Japan on Jan. 13, 2022 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, and BS-11.

Characters

Hajime Nagumo (Voiced by: Toshinari Fukamachi)
A high school student who was bullied and transported with his class to a magical world. He possesses very low-level transmutation magic. Betrayed by one of his classmates, he must struggle to escape a dungeon from the very bottom.

Yue (Voiced by: Yuki Kuwahara)
Also betrayed by someone, Yue and Hajime find each other in a dungeon. She is a loyal vampire with abandonment issues and will keep Hajime safe even if it puts her in danger.

Shea Haulia (Voiced by: Minami Takahashi)
Nicknamed the “Worthless Rabbit” due to her noisy, overly optimistic, and self-centered personality, Shea is a rabbit person with bunny ears and the ability to see into the future.

Tio Klarus (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
Tio is a masochist pervert loyal to Hajime Nagumo. She is honest and gives good advice. Not to mention, she can turn into a dragon and do a lot of cool elemental magic.

Kaori Shirasaki (Voiced by: Saori Onishi)
A classmate of Hajime’s who is the class idol and is popular with both the boys and girls. A certain incident in the past has led her to develop feelings for Hajime. Believing that he is still alive after having fallen into the abyss, she takes action to reunite with him. Her job class is Healer.

Shizuku Yaegashi (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)
Kaori’s best friend. She is the daughter of a master swordsman and is very skilled with a sword herself. She always worries about Kaori and often struggles to reign her in. Her job class is Swordmaster.

Myu (Voiced by: Yui Ogura)
A young half-mermaid girl from the merpeople tribe. She is taken prisoner by an underground organization after being separated from her mom. She manages to escape with her life and is saved by Hajime, whom she starts calling “Papa.”

Liliana S. B. Heiligh (Voiced by: Noriko Shibasaki)
A beautiful 14-year-old blond-haired girl who is the princess of Heiligh Kingdom. She has a cheerful and friendly personality, which endears her to her people and to Hajime’s classmates. She is close friends with Kaori and Shizuku. Her nickname is Lily.

Noint (Voiced by: Rina Siato)
One of the true Apostles of God. She is a silver-haired, blue-eyed beauty with a mysterious air and emotionless eyes like that of a Noh mask.

Aiko Hatayama (Voiced by: Ai Kakuma)
The homeroom teacher for the students who experienced the Summoning Incident. She is very responsible and cares a lot for her students. She is skilled in farming.

Daisuke Hiyama (Voiced by: Minoru Shiraishi)
Daisuke is the leader of the bullies who torment Hajime. He has a huge ego and the ability to cast fireballs. Not a good combo.

Koki Amanogawa (Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara)
Koki is like a leader to his fellow peers because the other students in his class look up to him and consider him perfect given that he is attractive, intelligent, and athletic. He has a strong sense of justice but also doesn’t like when things don’t go his way.

Shizuku Yaegashi (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)
Shizuku is a very smart swordswoman who weilds a black katana. She is one of the students who didn’t bully Hajime Nagumo.
