Synopsis

Maigahara Music College Affiliate School Maigahara Senior High (abbreviated MaiMai). At this academy where the most talented musicians from around the country gather, a rumor starts to circulate: Put on a great performance at the school festival and you can earn an extra credit. Believing the rumor to be true, Serina, a student who is in danger of flunking, decides to start a band! Together with Aliciana, Nazuna, Nagi, and Naru, the girls’ world brightens up as they perform, enjoy sleepovers, and even cosplay! But will they be able to perform well enough to earn the rumored credit? The story of a laid-back, everyday girls’ band begins!

Background

Irodorimidori is an upcoming short TV anime based on the high school girl band of the same name from SEGA Interactive’s rhythm game CHUNITHM. The band was created by Cabbage Saito and Lettuce Shichijo with designs by Hisasi and first introduced to the game in 2015. Their story is currently in its “second season.”

The short anime is being produced by Akatsuki (AFTERLOST) and directed by Chihaya Tanaka (Aquatope of White Sand, Smile Down the Runway) , with Chihaya Tanaka and Rei Ishikura (Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON, Overflow, Titan’s Bride) handling series composition, Kaori Goto and Takeshi Sato (GANTZ:O) handling character designs, and D.watt composing the music. Jun Koshimizu from SEGA and Yasuhiro Atobe (Remake Our Life!) from Frontwing are also credited as producers. The anime will premiere in Japan on Jan. 4, 2022 on Tokyo MX.

Characters

Serina Akesaka (Voiced by: Emi Nitta)
The drummer of the band Irodorimidori. She is a rambunctious, cheerful, and energetic mood maker. She has a fun-loving, positive personality and always finds the fun in anything and everything. She has a one-track mind and can’t stop once she’s set her mind to something.

Aliciana Ogata (Voiced by: Ayaka Fukuhara)
One of the guitarists of the band Irodorimidori. She always acts (or wants to act) gorgeous and cool, and has an older sister vibe. She is a caring person with a strong sense of responsibility, and unlike the other girls, she has good grades and a sharp mind.

Nazuna Tennozu (Voiced by: Ayano Yamamoto)
The other guitarist of the band Irodorimidori. She is shy and reserved, and always seems to be spacing out, but deep down she has a fiery and hardworking side. Whether because of her lack of physical strength or her personality, she always moves slowly. She seems to be a slow learner but is more determined than anyone else.

Nagi Kobotoke (Voiced by: Kaoru Sakura)
The keyboardist and sub-leader of the band Irodorimidori. She is cool and intelligent but is also a bit weird. She is usually quiet and emotionless and it’s hard to know what she’s feeling. In spite of her child-like appearance, she always calmly observes her surroundings and speaks frankly when she does choose to talk.

Naru Hakobe (Voiced by: M.A.O)
The bassist of the band Irodorimidori. Though short, she’s a powerful trickster. She talks a lot and is always on the go, and she loves to play pranks on others. Just like a child, she is always restless and impatient. She has a great sense of style and is the embodiment of the saying “there’s a fine line between genius and insanity.”

Nachi Tsukisuzu (Voiced by: Ayaka Imamura)
A professional violinist and prodigy performer who has won the school MVP award for two consecutive years. She has a peculiar way of speaking and a dour and eccentric personality to match. She can often be found in her “Big Sister Zone” which is an area at school that she occupies without permission.

Shirona Tsukisuzu (Voiced by: Marika Kono)
Nachi’s younger sister. She is a beautiful girl with a quiet demeanor, which is rare among the school’s many individualistic students, and she has the atmosphere of a deep, layered young lady. She has a habit of switching from violin to cello to compete with her older sister. She isn’t good at communicating with others, but when it comes to music, her energy shines through and she stands up to achieve her goals despite her fears. However, her inability to communicate sometimes causes her to fail. She has a wide range of musical interests, ranging from classical to rock, pop, and anime songs.
