Synopsis

Middle school student Nishikata is always teased by his classmate Takagi who sits next to him. She delights in poking fun at Nishikata incessantly. Though Nishikata tries to get back at her, his attempts always fall short. Can he ever tease the teaser?

Background

Written by Soichiro Yamamoto, the ongoing series Teasing Master Takagi-san began as a Japanese manga series published in Shogakukan’s manga magazine supplement Monthly Shonen Sunday Mini and was later moved into Monthly Shonen Sunday in July 2016. As of September 2021, 16 collected tankobon volumes have been published. The series has been licensed in English by Yen Press. A spin-off manga titled Tomorrow is Saturday written by Soichiro Yamamoto was serialized in Yomiuri Chukosei Shimbun from November 2014 to November 2015 and was released in two volumes. A second spin-off titled Koi ni Koisuru Yukari-chan with artwork by Yuma Suzu was serialized in Monthly Shonen Sunday from July 2017 to April 2020 and published in five volumes under the Gessan Shonen Sunday Comics imprint. A third spin-off titled Teasing Master (Former) Takagi-san with artwork by Mifumi Inaba has been serialized on the MangaONE app since July 2017 and has been released in 13 volumes as of November 2021.

The first season of the TV anime adaptation directed by Hiroaki Akagi (Hina Logic - from Luck & Logic) with animation by Shin-Ei Animation was broadcast from January to March 2018. An OVA (effectively episode 13) was released in July of that year. The second season saw returning staff and cast and was broadcast from July to September 2019 and spanned 12 episodes.

Season 3 of the TV anime adaptation was announced along with a new film in September 2021. It is once again being animated by Shin-Ei Animation (A Couple of Cuckoos, Doraemon, Those Snow White Notes) and features Hiroaki Akagi (Combatants Will Be Dispatched!, Hina Logic - from Luck & Logic, Those Snow White Notes) as director, with Kanichi Kato (Black Clover, The Eminence in Shadow, Tsugumomo), Aki Itami (Flowers of Evil, Fruits Basket, Uzumaki), and Hiroko Fukuda (Assassins Pride, Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?, Wasteful Days of High School Girl) handling scripts, Aya Takano (Himoto! Umaru-chan, Polar Bear's Café, Your Lie in April) handling character designs, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor, I Couldn't

, Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls) handling the music. The opening theme song will be sung by Yuiko Ohara. The anime will premiere in Japan in January 2022, and the film will open sometime in 2022 as well.
