Synopsis

Due to a horrible accident, Keina Kagami is put on life support, and the only freedom she has left she finds in the world of the VRMMORPG Leadale. However, when her life support fails, she wakes up to find herself actually inside the game’s world! Now a high elf named Cayna, she finds out that 200 years have passed since the events of the game and begins investigating what has happened in all that time, all the while deepening her relationships with the people inhabiting the world and the NPCs she once created, including her three “children”!

Background

In the Land of Leadale is a light novel series written by Ceez and illustrated by Tenmaso that was first published to the user-generated novel publishing site Shosetsuka ni Naro from November 2010 to December 2012 before being acquired by Kadokawa and published by Enterbrain under their Famitsu Bunko imprint. As of August 2021, seven volumes have been published. The novel is also available in English through Yen Press, who have published four volumes as of December 2021.

A manga adaptation written by Ryo Suzukaze and illustrated by Dashio Tsukimi has been serialized on ASCII Media Works' Dengeki PlayStation Comic Web website since July 2019, and the fourth collected tankobon volume will be published in January 2022. As with the novel, the manga is also licensed in English through Yen Press, the first volume of which will be published in March 2022.

A TV anime adaptation was announced in February 2021. It is being animated by Maho Film and features Takeyuki Yanase as director, with Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handling series composition and scripts, Eri Kojima, Kaho Deguchi, and Toshihide Masudate handling character designs, and Kujira Yumemi composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is “Happy encount” by TRUE, and the ending theme song is “Hakoniwa no Koufuku” by Azusa Tadokoro. The anime will premiere in Japan on Jan. 5, 2022 on Sun TV, Tokyo MX, and BS NTV. Crunchyroll will stream the anime as it airs in Japan.

Characters

Cayna (Voiced by: Eri Yukimura)
Her real name is Keina Kagami. As a player in the world of the VRMMORPG Leadale, she was one of the top players known as the “Silver Rings Witch.” Now, having been reincarnated into the game’s world 200 years later, she becomes an adventurer, but having mastered all the skills in the game, her level is way too high and exceeds the normal limit.

Skargo (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)
Cayna’s ward and the eldest of three siblings. He is a high priest who excels at healing magic. Stunningly handsome, he is the current high priest of the church and is revered as much as a king. His special skill “Oscar: Roses Scatter with Beauty,” makes it rain rose petals and sparkles around him and even has sound effects too. He’s a total mamma’s boy and thinks his mom is the absolute authority.

Mai-Mai (Voiced by: Kaori Nazuka)
An elf girl who is Skargo’s younger sister. She specializes in attack magic and belonged to a mage guild in the game. In the current world, her job has changed from being a court mage to being a professor at the Royal Academy. When she becomes fed up with Skargo’s absolute devotion to their mother, the two get into a huge magical fight and she is scolded by Cayna for using her magic without restraint. However, she still loves Cayna very much and wants to be coddled by her.

Kartatz (Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita)
A dwarf and the youngest of the three siblings. He specializes in architecture and building structures such as fortresses, castles, and dungeons. In the current world, he is a renowned craftsman. Though he can be stubborn and harsh, compared to his eccentric siblings he seems to have the most common sense.

"Key" (Voiced by: Yui Otagiri)
An AI created to help support Keina when she could no longer move due to her illness. They are always by Keina’s side, even in the world of Leadale, and offers adventuring support. They keep logs of all kinds of information about the game, and even know how many times Cayna has had a hangover.

Lytt (Voiced by: Kanako Yanagihara)
An innkeeper’s daughter who lives in a village in the northern region, where Cayna wakes up in the world of Leadale. She is deceptively strong for her small size and looks up to Cayna like an older sister.

Marelle (Voiced by: Sakura Nakamura)
The owner of the inn where Cayna wakes up in Leadale. She worries about Cayna, who outwardly looks young and naive, and watches over her in various ways. She becomes like a mom to Cayna in the world of Leadale.

Luine (Voiced by: Yuki Hirose)
Marelle’s eldest daughter and Lytt’s older sister. She helps out at the inn during the evening as a barkeep.

Caerina (Voiced by: Azusa Tadokoro)
Mai-Mai’s daughter and Caerick’s older twin sister. She is a young elf girl just shy of being 100 years old and is a top-class fighter, even among the knights. She is very fond of Cayna but is terrified of making her angry because she heard from Mai-Mai that she is “merciless in destroying even her own people.”

Caerick (Voiced by: Tomoya Takagi)
Mai-Mai’s son and Caerina’s younger twin brother. He organizes the World Shop said to be used by adventurers all over the world and is called the god of merchants. His special skill lets him communicate with his sister Caerina telepathically. Despite his appearance, he is actually a father.
