Summary
One of the biggest card games in the world right now is WIXOSS. Unlike other card games, there are rare cards called “LRIGs” that actually grant players access to battle in a different dimension - not just for fun, either. Fierce battles between other players with “LRIGs” take place there. Somehow, the one who defeats everyone and rises to the top can have their most desired wish granted…
Background
WIXOSS is a multimedia project handled by Takara Tomy, J.C. Staff, and Warner Entertainment Japan. It was first launched as a trading card game in 2014. Shortly after in the same year, the first anime series Selector Infected WIXOSS premiered with 12 episodes. A card game series with its fair share of darker themes, it has also had two other anime series follow: Selector Spread WIXOSS and Lostorage Incited WIXOSS.
Two manga series and an animated film have also been produced, alongside a full-length novel and a smartphone game. Lostorage Conflated WIXOSS is a direct sequel to Lostorage Incited WIXOSS.
Characters
Ruuko Kominato (CV: Ai Kakuma)
Ruuko is a young teenager with divorced parents who is kind but also distant and aloof. She has less desires than most people, and is often seen as and commented on as unusual. She feels most strongly about her friends and the card game, which unsettles her at times since she doesn’t usually experience such strong emotions.
Suzuko Homura (CV: Chinami Hashimoto)
Suzuko is a super shy teenager who has a hard time making friends. Despite this, her claws come out when she’s in the midst of a card battle, and she has a unique way of thinking that helps her pull off creative and unusual moves and strategies. For the friends that she does have, Suzuko is willing to do anything to keep and protect them.
Kiyoi Mizushima (CV: Saori Oonishi)
Originally a young teenager, Kiyoi is now also known as Piruluk after becoming an LRIG herself. While she also seems distant, that is just a result of her extreme shyness and fear of vulnerability. This is largely in part due to past betrayals, particularly where one person she thought was a friend was in fact the reason she was getting bullied.
