Since Nobita’s Dinosaur in 1980, audiences of all ages have continued to be captivated by the Doraemon movie series, which is reaching its 35th anniversary in 2015. It has been revealed that coming before the release of the newest movie in the series, Doraemon: Nobita’s Space Heroes, will be the “Doraemon the Movie Festival.” For the 35th anniversary of the movie series, 35 movies will be screened in 35 days, from Jan. 31 to March 6, at the Jinbocho Theater. A portion of the works will also include the short films that accompanied them during their theater runs, so audiences will be able to enjoy an atmosphere that feels like the movies are premiering for the first time at this monumental film festival.

All movies in the series––from the first movie, Nobita’s Dinosaur, to the 34th, this year’s New Nobita’s Great Demon––will be screened at “Doraemon the Movie Festival.” Including, What Am I for Momotaro, the short film that accompanied the 1981 movie 21 Emon: Uchu e Irasshai, there will be 35 movies in total for audiences to enjoy. Short works that accompanied other films in the series will also be screened including Esper Mami: Hoshizora no Dancing Doll in which Doremi-chan, the Doraemons, and others make appearances. It seems safe to say that this aspect will be a pleasant highlight of the festival as well.

The venue, Jinbocho Theater, was also the site of a Doraemon film festival celebrating the series’ 30th anniversary in 2010 which was a resounding success with sold-out screenings one after the next. It seems all but assured that the festival will be bustling with many fans this time as well.

Regarding the festival, the producer of the Doraemon the Movie series joyfully commented, “I’m happy to have been able to put together such a project as this for this auspicious celebration of the movie series’ 35th anniversary.” He went on to say the following message to fans: “It may be a given for the films you haven’t yet seen, but even for those you have, there are surely new discoveries to find. Please enjoy once more the grand adventures of Doraemon and the others on the big screen!”

Details on the screening lineup will be released in the coming days upon the update of Jinbocho Theater’s official site.
