Musical Composer Kenji Kawai Speaks on Making Music for 009 RE:CYBORG

The third event in which the staff of 009 RE:CYBORG spoke about working on the film was held in Shinjuku, Tokyo on Nov. 25. The guest for the event was the film’s musical composer, Kenji Kawai.

Kenji Kawai is known as a leading musical composer in Japan. He has worked on many films and anime including Ghost in the Shell and Mobile Suit Gundam 00. The soundtrack for 009 RE:CYBORG, “Sound of 009 RE:CYBORG” has already amassed great recognition, and a new tribute album, “Another Sound of 009 RE:CYBORG” is now on sale.

The venue was packed as Kawai spoke about the music from the film. Before working on the music for “009”, director Kamiyama requested that the music sound energetic and youthful, and not like that of an older generation. Kamiyama also had additional small requests for Kawaii, such as how the ending theme “RE:CYBORG” should begin and adopting a mongolian folk song style for the song used in the opening scene.

Afterwards during a Q&A session, Kawai talked with fans, sharing personal information such as how he generally only listens to music when he is in a car. The fans asked some great questions, and the event was a huge success.
