Shopping advice for the holiday season
(2025/11/12)
Update: 2025/11/26 (for US shoppers)
For US shoppers, FedEx DDP has been added as a shipping method in cart for in-stock items. If you are shopping for holiday gifts we strongly recommend chooosing FedEx if it is available for your shipment.
Unfortunately, Japan Post has suspended services to the US which largely limits the shipping options from our Japan warehouse for in-stock and ready to ship items. For items shipping from our Japan warehouse we strongly do not recommend selecting any shipping methods that would use Japan Post (EMS, ePacket Light, Surface Parcel). If you are in the US, we recommend ECMS or FedEx (if available).
Update: 2025/11/14 (for Canadian shoppers)
Japan Post has resumed accepting packages bound for Canada, so we recommend selecting EMS as another option to get your holiday gifts in time.
Original Post:
With the holiday season approaching you may be considering purchasing gifts for a loved one (or yourself). If you're thinking of getting a gift we recommend choosing the fastest method available.
Pre-order items that are listed with a November release month are likely to release near the end of the month and we do not recommend purchasing these as gifts as they are likely to arrive after the holidays.
Delays in customs and by local delivery companies can also increase shipping time.
Please note that even in-stock orders made in the second half of December are likely to arrive after the holidays, so we recommend trying to avoid any last minute shopping.
Tips for Holiday Ordering:
- Special Order/Pre-order items estimated to be shipped in November and December can still be subject to delays, so we do not recommend ordering these for gifts.
- Select the fastest method that is available and order items already in-stock to help ensure that your package arrives as quickly as possible. If you live in the US, do not use EMS, ePacket Light, or Surface Parcel as these methods are currently suspended.
- Keep a close eye on the tracking information, or share your tracking info with your gift recipient. Local postal services are not always reliable about leaving delivery notices or attempting redelivery. Check your tracking information often and
contact your post office with any inquiries.
New shipping method available for US customers
(2025/10/9)
We are beginning to roll out a new shipping method (ECMS) that allows full prepayment of US tariffs for internationally shipped orders. At this time, ECMS is limited to the US but we may expand to other countries after this initial rollout.
ECMS is currently available for the following in-stock and special order items at our Japan warehouse: figures, plushies, model kits, books, CDs, Blu-rays, vinyl records, calendars, clear files, shikishi, acrylic keychains, acrylic stands, and acrylic panels.
We plan to continue making it available for more product categories over time.
The tariff for ECMS orders will be listed as Import Fees when you make your purchase.
The upside of a DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping method is that no one will ever charge you more to receive your product than what you've already paid up front when placing your order, no matter how the situation in the US continues to evolve.
We recommend choosing ECMS if you want your product to ship right away, rather than wait for Japan Post shipping methods to resume.
If you have stocked orders that are on hold with an unavailable shipping method, we'll reach out on a rolling basis to gauge your interest in an optional paid upgrade to ECMS. (Due to size or product type restrictions, some orders may be ineligible at this time.) If you do not want ECMS, your items will remain on hold at our warehouse.
Canada Post related service delays
(2024/12/31)
Update: 2025/9/30
Canada Post has resumed strike activities, so international shipments by Japan Post will again be temporarily suspended while the strike is on-going. As before, if you’re going to make a purchase for in-stock items and you’d like your order to ship out without delay, we recommend choosing FedEx as your shipping method.
Original Post:
For our Canadian friends, as you may already know Canada Post has resumed service after the workers strike, but we wanted to give you a heads up that delays are to be expected until early 2025.
International mail that arrived in Canada prior to the strike should start to be processed, but mail that was shipped after the end of the strike will take additional time. We recommend keeping an eye on your tracking information in the meantime.
Additional information can be found at Canada Post’s News Releases page.
If shipping time is a concern, we suggest picking FedEx as your shipping method when ordering in-stock items from our Japan warehouse.
Temporary suspension of US-bound shipments from Japan
(2025/8/26)
The United States government has announced plans to collect tariffs on international packages under $800 in value. To date, however, US-based purchasers have generally not been charged tariffs even on higher-value postal packages. So there are doubts about if/how these import fees would be collected.
Due to the lack of clarity, Japan Post (along with many other countries’ postal services) will temporarily stop accepting shipments to the US. The shipping suspension will begin on August 27, 2025 (JST).
Paused shipments will appear with the status "Pending (Shipping Method Unavailable)" on your Orders page.
We'll keep a close eye on future news from Japan Post and USPS, as well as reports from US importers. We'll resume shipments after Japan Post officially does so. But first, we will make sure to confirm whether or not tariffs are actually getting collected on international postal packages, and how it all works.
Your order will be placed on hold automatically until Japan Post resumes shipping. We are also happy to store your orders indefinitely upon request (as an extra precaution), even if Japan Post resumes shipments in the near future. If you wish to request this, please write in to let us know.
Products slated to be sent from our US warehouse will be unaffected by this stoppage.
We truly appreciate your patience during these confusing times, and we’ll be sure to share updates once clearer information becomes available.

Shipping Delays and Email Response Times During Japanese Obon Holidays 8/9 - 8/14
(2025/7/31)
Please note that during the Japanese Obon Holidays, shipments may be delayed from our Japanese warehouse.
Due to a possible buildup in orders during this time, shipments might be delayed by an additional 2-5 business days when operations resume on August 14th, 2025 (JST).
In addition, email response times for emails sent to our customer service email address, as well as through our inquiry form may see responses taking longer than usual during this period as our customer service team is working in a limited capacity.
Service suspension of TOM Surface
(2025/4/8)
We're received a number of questions about how new tariffs might affect purchasers in the United States. We are keeping an eye on the situation as it develops but for now, we can say that we have no intention of asking for additional payment for any orders you have already made, such as pre-orders.
Here are a few other things we can say at this time.
1. You won't be charged extra tariffs for products shipping from our US warehouse.
2. Any tariffs that may be levied on imports shipped from our Japanese warehouse will usually be collected by the final leg delivery service before delivery, and you will be contacted by the delivery service operator beforehand. Please note that like all delivery fees and customs, this amount is out of our control and TOM does not collect any of these fees.
As of April 8, 2025, we have not yet received reports from US-based customers who were charged extra tariffs before delivery.
3. However, TOM has been charged (and has absorbed the cost of) tariffs for recent TOM Surface deliveries, which are processed differently from regular import purchases. Due to the difficulties of continuing to absorb this cost, we plan to pause TOM Surface container shipments for the foreseeable future. Within the next few days, TOM Surface will be removed as a shipping method from the cart, and any TOM Surface orders that have not yet left our Japan warehouse will be changed to Surface Parcel or EMS depending on size. If we change your shipping method, we'll send an email to let you know. We truly appreciate your understanding during these confusing times.

TOM Shop Policy Update Regarding Prize Figures
(1/31/2018)
One of our bigger distributors for lower priced crane prize figures will no longer provide replacements for minor paint imperfections or minor quality issues.
TOM will no longer be able to ask for replacements for such issues, and TOM does not offer full refund for minor paint issues for lower priced prize figures.
Please be aware that prize items under $40.00 are mass produced and held to a lower quality standard by manufacturers than most figures.
Depending on the specific quality, TOM will offer TOM points as compensation, please be aware this will be at the full discretion of TOM. Our Shop FAQ has been updated accordingly. Main manufacturers affected are Banpresto and lower priced TAITO figures.
My prize figure has paint imperfections, can I have a replacement?
My product arrived damaged/My product has an item defect. What should I do?
