Launched in November 2014, amiibo is a collection of figurines by Nintendo able to communicate wirelessly with the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. They take on the appearance of different Nintendo characters from all of the most popular franchises from Super Mario to The Legend of Zelda, making them as collectible as they are functional.

They use near field communication (NFC) to interact with supported video games including Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Mario Kart 8, and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. They’re able to store data which is then accessed through the chosen game in the form of in-game perks like new characters, abilities, power-ups, and more for an even more immersive and fun gaming experience!
