A not-so-hidden gem among Japanese role-playing video games, the popular Tales franchise first began in 1995 with the release of Tales of Phantasia for the Super Famicom, created by the talented Yoshiharu Gotanda.

With over sixteen main titles in addition to its spin-offs, sequels, and manga and anime adaptations, it’s earned itself a loyal and loving fanbase. Its numerous video games can be found on everything from the Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 4 to Android, iOS, and Microsoft Windows through Steam. Each entry tells its own story, although terminology is often consistent, such as skills including Demon Fang and Tiger Blade, as well as item names like Apple Gel and Life Bottle.
