Official Resident Evil Escape Experience Touring the US [Event Report]

“It doesn’t fit that way. Okay, try 3, then 7… C’mon, c’mon. Got it! We’re in!”

If the above phrases sound unusual to you, you may have never challenged your wits to complete an escape room, an experience that originated in Japan. And if you’re a lover of solving puzzles at intense speeds, it’s highly recommended by this writer that you give it a try.

Right now, the officially licensed Resident Evil: Escape Experience is touring six cities in the United States, and its popularity is spreading faster than the T-Virus.

In this IRL game, a group of 6 people have 45 minutes to solve several spine-tingling puzzles that unlock doors, chests, and safes with the end goal being to escape from the locked room before time runs out. While three TOM staff members got far in the game’s Portland location, they weren’t able to make it to the end, and haven’t been seen since. Supposedly, they are now members of the Baker family.

While we certainly won’t spoil anything here about the recently released hit video game, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, avid RE fans will notice that the escape room mirrors certain points from the title. Actually, you don’t have to play any of the Resident Evil games to enjoy the Resident Evil: Escape Experience, but if you have in the past, you’ll likely appreciate the clever nods to character names, objects, signs, and other lore pulled from the series’ robust 20-year long history.

The length of these limited engagements was recently extended. Some cities will run the Resident Evil: Escape Experience until the first week of April. Is it happening in your city? Will you take the challenge?
