Up-and-Coming Voice Actor Arata Ito’s Volunteer Trash Picking Continues at This Year’s Comiket with Huge Echo on the Internet

Up-and-coming voice actor Arata Ito’s volunteer trash picking along the perimeter of Comiket’s venue is becoming a Comiket spectacle. It didn’t go missing from this year’s Comic Market 87 either, which started on Dec. 28.

Ito has been voluntarily picking up trash at three consecutive Comic Markets, starting at last winter’s Comiket 85, and that’s only what the reporters confirm.

During Comiket 85, when Arata posted about his trash picking activity on his Twitter account (@arata_aaa), many people admired his initiative, calling it amazing, but there were also numerous criticizers who dismissed it as a “publicity stunt.”

However, he carried on unwavering, regardless of what people said, and during the three events, the number of people supporting him and helping him has been rising. His post about his Comiket 87 activities has been retweeted more than 9,000 times and is being greeted with voices of applause, such as “Not bad,” “Cool,” or “Ikemen (Handsome)! What you’re doing is awesome!”

Comment from Ito: “Comiket 87 trash picking. Even if no one asked for it or expected it. You can laugh at me, thinking how stupid it is. Still, I’m here for my usual trash picking, believing that there’ll be at least a little bit less next time.” - excerpt from Ito’s tweet from Dec. 28, 2014.
“Hey everyone, it’s been a while. I sensed the smell of garbage, so I returned. I started picking right from the first train!” - excerpt from Ito’s tweet from Aug. 15, 2014.
“I’ve heard that there’s a lot of littering at Comiket, so I’ve been picking up trash since morning. Even alone, I’ve managed to collect quite a lot!” - excerpt from Ito’s tweet from Dec. 29, 2013.
