From Nov. 23 to Dec. 23 at the Mori Art Museum in Ueno, Tokyo, the “Evangelion and Japanese Swords Exhibit” will be held. Beginning in Okayama, the exhibit has been held in Okazaki (Aichi Prefecture), Hiroshima, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Seki (Gifu Prefecture), and now it is finally coming to Tokyo. Included for the first time will be three items from the newest movie in the series.

Drawing inspiration from the world of the Rebuild of Evangelion movies, craftsmen of Japanese swords have recreated weapons from the movies as well as created Japanese swords with modern designs in the image of each character using traditional techniques for this exhibit. The weapons Bizen Osafune and Magoroku Sword from Evangelion: Another Story modeled after the actual Bizen Osafune and Seki Magoroku swords will also be included. In total, works from over 50 craftsmen will be on display.
In addition to commentary on the evolution of Japanese swords, the exhibit will also host Evangelion-related panels, figures of Unit-01, life-size figures of Rei and Asuka, life-size cardboard cutouts, a banner for commemorative photos, DVDs regarding the process of creating Japanese swords, a making-of DVD for the Lance of Longinus, over 500 kinds of Eva goods, an area selling original goods exclusive to the exhibit, and more. Voiced tours will also be given by Kotono Mitsuishi, the voice of Misato. An event for the swordsmiths to engrave a commemorative plate is also planned.
At the same time, “Kaiyodo Evangelion Figure World” will also be held. This event consists of dioramas that use Kaiyodo figures to recreate memorable scenes from the movies. More than 50 new dioramas are planned to be on display.
