A cafe themed after the Sanrio character My Melody called My Melody Cafe is open now at The Guest Cafe & Diner in Shibuya Parco 1. The cafe is a huge success, with wait times as long as two hours every day. Now, in celebration of My Melody winning the 2014 Sanrio Character Ranking, a menu was recently released on Aug. 13 themed after My Melody’s rival, Kuromi. With the appearance of My Melody and the equally popular Kuromi, it seems the cafe will become even more popular.
The new menu is being offered under the backstory that Kuromi, who envies My Melody for magnificently winning the 2014 Sanrio Character Ranking, has come to the My Melody Cafe to crash it. There are two items on this new menu. The “Scratch!! Kuromi’s Black Curry with Baku’s Favorite Grilled Chicken Salad” is an impressive curry with an appetizingly thick fond de veau and highly fragrant spiciness accented by Kuromi’s favorite food, Japanese leeks. Together with the curry is a salad garnished with grilled chicken, support character Baku’s favorite food. The other menu item, “Kuromi’s Black Smoothie,” is a Japanese-style smoothie with a profound flavor of black sesame seeds and soy flour.
Also in celebration of My Melody’s Sanrio Character Ranking win, the design on the popular take-home luncheon mats has been changed. And for those fans who can’t make it to the cafe, sales of cafe-exclusive goods have begun on the official online shop.
My Melody is a popular Sanrio Character themed after a rabbit and a red hood. Since her creation in 1975, she has continued to be loved mainly by young girls. Capitalizing on her popularity, the TV anime series Onegai My Melody began in 2005. Kuromi first appeared in this TV anime in 2005 and has made regular appearances ever since.
