WeLoveFine is an online store for fans to purchase clothing designed after their favorite works including My Little Pony, Power Rangers, Star Trek, and more. The designs are hugely popular not only because they are well-made, but mainly because they are made by fans. Each design truly expresses the love the creator has for the particular work, that just isn’t often seen in ordinary, mass-produced clothing for fans. WeLoveFine often holds contests for fans to submit their designs in the hopes that their art will be chosen to be made into clothing available on WeLoveFine. Winners also receive cash and other cool prizes. The winners of the Hatsune Miku Fan Design Contest were just recently announced, and TOM was excited to be part of the judging process for the first time. From over 660 designs submitted, five were chosen as winners!
The Grand Prize Winner was Anupa Sakulpanich with her bold design “Sound Gimmick” of Hatsune Miku standing confidently in front of a huge sound system! She commented the following to fellow fans: “Sawasdee!, I am Anupa. I graduated in Architecture from Silpakorn University. Zain, an illustration artist based in Tokyo, awarded her Judge Pick to Krit Parnsanay for her “I Am Your Melody” design. Krit used Hatsune Miku’s characteristic teal color paired with crimson red to make the dark, mysterious design eye-catching.
Hiroyuki Itoh, the CEO of Crypton Future Media, awarded his Judge Pick to Rebecca Varela for her playful design titled “Hanging Around.” A chibi Hatsune Miku is having fun swinging on a tie themed after her own outfit!
Hot Topic, a store that is famous for selling T-shirts and more related to sub-cultures and music, chose Ann Mendenhall’s design titled “Zebra.” Past meets present as the the famous Vocaloid characters, Hatsune Miku, Rin Kagamine, Len Kagamine, and Luka Megurine, reenact the famous "Abbey Road" photo by The Beatles.
The TOM team had a tough time deciding which design we would award our Judge Pick to because of all of the stunning designs that each had something unique. We chose Dana Jessica Joaquin’s design titled “Milky Way Hatsune.” Not only is the drawing on Hatsune Miku beautifully done, but we feel the pose she was drawn in expresses Miku’s elegance, kind spirit, and passion for sharing music with the world. Not to mention, the Milky Way theme to us represents that Hatsune Miku has no bounds. She has fans all throughout the world, and perhaps some in other parts of the Milky Way still unknown to us!
