Interest has been building for the sports anime Ace of Diamond which is set to begin broadcasting next month. The original manga for Ace of Diamond is a huge hit that has sold more than 17 million copies, and ever since the anime adaptation was announced, it has become a huge topic. On Sept. 11, the first promotional video for the anime was released online. The PV shows parts of the anime and the characters Eijun Sawamura and Satoru Furuya in action.
An interesting aspect of this anime is that it is a joint work between Madhouse and Production I.G. Each of these studios are frontrunners in the world of Japanese animation. These two teaming up on the same anime is indeed rare, so it will be interesting to see what kind of story and production comes out of this tag team effort.
The manga for Ace of Diamond was created by Yuji Terajima and is currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine (Kodansha). It began in 2006, and 35 volumes have currently been published. In addition to its popularity, it has won the 53rd Shogakukan Manga Award and the 34th Kodansha Manga Award. The story follows Eijun Sawamura, who has just entered the baseball specialty school Seidou High School, and Kazuya Miyuki as they live out their adolescence while focusing on baseball. In order to appeal to a wide group of fans from kids to adults, the anime will be broadcast every Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
Also not to be overlooked is the popular voice cast. In addition to Ryota Ohsaka as Eijun Sawamura and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Satoru Furuya, other all-star members include Natsuki Hanae, Takahiro Sakurai, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Shintarō Asanuma, Yūki Ono, Daisuke Namikawa, Masakazu Morita, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Hiro Shimono, and Wataru Hatano. As well as the fascinating characters, fans should also take note of this stellar cast.
