A Tanabata festival will be held from Aug. 1–8 at Pokémon Center Tohoku, an official Pokémon shop, with the purpose of bringing smiles to the children of Tohoku who were affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. During the duration of the festival, Pokémon will come to play at the festival and a Tanabata workshop will be open, in addition to many other fun activities.
For this year’s Tanabata festival, a giant Tanabata decoration filled with the wishes of children from the affected areas and covered with 649 Pokémon will be featured. From Aug. 1–5, a Snivy greeting will be held, and from Aug. 6–8, a Pikachu and Victini photo gathering will be held. These are great chances to be able to take a commemorative photo together with Pokémon. Other activities will include a Tanabata workshop for creating paper dioramas and a kids carnival.
Furthermore, there are enjoyable programs planned for after the festival, too. Tanabata symbol art will be on display and a special Jirachi present, limited to the Tanabata festival, will be available until Aug. 31.
From June 29 to July 28 at Pokémon Center Tohoku, children will be able to write their wishes on strips of paper which will then be made into a large art piece that will be on display for the duration of the Tanabata festival in August on the Shop & Wander AER billboard.
Also, for this event, a Jirachi present 1 for the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, and Pokémon White 2 will be available that has moves and item themed after Tanabata. This extremely special Pokémon will be holding a present for the first time, a “Starf Berry,” and will also know the moves “Draco Meteor,” “Meteor Mash,” and “Follow Me”––moves ordinary Jirachi cannot learn.
This Jirachi is a special Pokémon that can only be obtained at Pokémon Center Tohoku during the duration of the Tanabata festival. Those who are interested should check it out!
