On July 13, the popular band Ikimono-gakari held a debut performance of their song “Smile” at LaLaport Toyosu’s Seaside Deck. “Smile” is the theme song to the latest Pokémon film, Pokémon Best Wishes! The Movie: ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo's Awakening, which also released in theaters on July 13. The audience included 4,000 fans who fully enjoyed the song at the free event. Just a few days prior on July 10, the song was released as a new single. “Smile” is a medium-paced song that is completed with Yoshioka’s bright, carefree voice which delivers an impactful, strong, and positive message.
The event was held in celebration of the latest Pokémon film’s release. It was the first time in a year and five months that Ikimono-gakari performed a song at a free event. Vocalist Yoshioka sported a ponytail as seen in the music video for the song. She confidently sung the song using the full power of her voice.
Yoshioka also challenged herself with voice acting for the first time by performing as Eevee in the film. At the release celebration event, in celebration of Yoshioka’s challenge, a special “Sing Eevee” Pokémon that knows the move “Sing” was given as a Pokémon Black, * Pokémon White*, * Pokémon Black 2* and * Pokémon White 2* in-game present for those who attended.
However, there is good news for those who could not attend the event. An exchange ticket for “Sing Eevee” is included in the CD single for “Smile” which can be exchanged at Toys R Us and Pokémon Centers throughout Japan until Sept. 1. This limited single will be selling until mid August for 649 yen. In addition to an exchange ticket, it also features specially drawn Pokémon jacket art and, for the first time, an original Eevee Pokémon Tretta.
