On April 19, an original short anime was uploaded to YouTube and Nico Nico Douga. That anime is Little Witch Academia. A lot of fans were surprised to hear the news, as this anime was just released in theaters in March as part of the compilation movie Anime Mirai (a film by the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Young Animator Training Project). The “official” wording on the video is not a lie, you can enjoy the story in its entirety on the official site or right here on TOM.
Little Witch Academia is the story of a little girl who saw a magic show as a child. As a result, she develops a strong admiration toward witches and enrolls into a magic school.
While being mesmerized by the opening, which is a spectacular magic show, characters crowd the screen and the story progresses fast before building up to a magnificent finale. It’s so entertaining that you won’t even notice as time jumps forward 26 minutes - just like magic.
The YouTube video is swimming in praising comments from the fans who already saw it, and there are also numerous requests for a sequel.
Little Witch Academia is You Yoshinari’s first movie as a director. You Yoshinari participated in the production of Gurren Lagann as mecha designer and is well-liked in the anime world for his vigorous and catchy pictures.
Trigger is an animation studio founded by Hiroyuki Imaishi, the director of Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and Masahiko Otsuka. Little Witch Academia is an original short anime created by this new studio, and it is getting compliments from all around the world. The upcoming TV series is already being talked about, and we can’t take our eyes off Trigger’s movements.
