There is no stop to the popularity of Kotoura-san, a yonkoma (four panel) manga written by Enokizu that started on the online manga distribution site, Manga Goccha. It made quite an echo as it was accessed a total of 8.4 million times. It was also published in book form by Micro Magazine, which instantly became a huge hit due to the broadcast of the anime.
The fourth volume was published on Feb. 22, 2013, and in less than two weeks, a reprint has been decided. It is selling at such a rate that the total amount sold for the series might reach 500,000. On March 6, a special feature episode was broadcast on Nico Nico Live. The series just keeps getting more and more popular.
Kotoura-san, as the title suggests, is about a high school girl. However, she is not an ordinary high school girl; she has the special ability to read other people’s minds. The characters are very unique, including the protagonist herself, a boy named Manabe who has a crush on Kotoura, and the members of the ESP Research Club who are interested in Kotoura’s ability. Their school life filled with love and laughter unfolds in the yonkoma manga. However, it’s charm isn’t only in its use of comedy; it also has a serious side that depicts Kotoura’s struggles due to her unusual ability.
Volume 5 is already scheduled to be released on May 31, 2013, and it seems that the anime is going to continue as well. Let’s see how far it’s popularity spreads.
