Summary

Youkai Apato no Yuuga na Nichijou, also known as Life at the Monster Apartment or YouApa for short, is an upcoming supernatural slice-of-life anime based on Hinowa Kouzuki’s popular light novel series.

After losing his parents and living with his relatives for years, first-year high school student Yuushi Inaba moves out to live on his own. As luck would have it, the dormitory he was supposed to live in burns down and he is forced to look for a budget-friendly alternative. It is only after he moves in that he finds out humans are not the only tenants of the manor; he shares the building with different supernatural creatures—ghosts, youkai, and mononoke—and he can’t even tell his best friend about it!

The first novel came out in 2003 and received the Fuji TV Prize at the 51st Sankei Children’s Book Award the following year. Ten volumes and three related books have been published to date, including the spin-off Las Vegas Gaiden. Youkai Apartment also has an ongoing manga adaptation illustrated by Waka Miyama that started serialization in Monthly Shonen Sirius in 2011. It has 13 volumes to date, the latest of which was published this April.

The series premieres on July 3 on Tokyo MX, July 4 on Yomiuri TV and BS11, and July 5 on 20 video on demand services including Netflix, Amazon Video, Anime Hodai, Nico Nico Channel, and Google Play.
