The Japanese tradition of furoshiki is an important one. These beautiful square clothes are used for any number of functions, but they’re probably most easily recognized as the fabric used for wrapping bento boxes!
They come in all sorts of materials,, colors and patterns, so there’s a lot of personality and functionality to each, as well!
Japanese shoe designer Hashimoto Masaya decided to use this tradition for an entirely new purpose: incredible form-fitting and ankle-supporting shoes!
He and the Italian footwear company Vibram have worked together to create Furoshiki Shoes. Using that same idea of “wrapping” as furoshiki, these shoes wrap around your foot, so no matter what size your feet are or how wide they are, these will fit perfectly while adding a lot of support!
These are best seen in action, though, so see more of the designs and possibilities in the video below
These are completely unique from different sneakers, and their designs will definitely catch you off-guard at first, but they have a definite coolness about them!
