Gakuen Handsome Successfully Crowdfunds Anime

Gakuen Handsome started off in 2010 as a love adventure game for the PC by Team YokkyuuFuman and earned a huge fan base for its… uh... uniquely unforgettable art and story. It has since appeared in a ton of ways including apps, collaborations, and tons of stuff by fans. The main cast were even featured as crepes for a collaboration with CharaCre! Back in April, and you can check out the video below!

After seeing that, you can probably see why fans of this cult favorite lost their minds when it was revealed that Team YokkyuuFuman was crowdfunding on Makuake for an anime adaptation. Not only did they meet their goal of 2 million yen (~$20,000 USD), they crushed it. With support from 343 backers, they earned a whopping 346% of that goal, bringing in 6,920,640 yen. (Crazily enough, that’s an average of around 20,177 yen each, or around $200 USD!)

Their first goal was for the anime adaptation. A 4 million yen stretch goal added stamps for the app LINE, and the 6 million yen stretch goal increased the scope of the anime’s release.

The anime will air on TOKYO MX and BS Fuji on Oct. 4 at 1 am, and it will also be up for streaming on the NicoNico Official Channel Gakuen Handsome Channel! The 1st episode will stream for free beginning at noon that day, and each new episode following that will be available for free for a week. If you’re able to watch it, don’t miss out!
