Umaibo Appears in First “Dagashi Kashi” PV; Broadcast Premieres Jan. 7

The broadcast dates of the new 2016 winter TV anime Dagashi Kashi have been confirmed. The anime will premiere on TBS and other networks in Japan on Jan. 7, 2016. A main visual and promotional video have also been revealed. Things are heating up for the broadcast at the beginning of next year.

The first air date of Dagashi Kashi will be Jan. 7 on TBS and CBC. After that it will premiere on Sun TV on Jan. 8, BS-TBS on Jan. 9, and CS-TBS Channel 1 on Jan. 17. Audiences in every part of Japan will be able to enjoy the broadcasts.

The newly released main visual shows the scene inside the Shikada’s sweets shop, the setting of the series. Heroines Hotaru Shidare and Saya Endo look cute eating candy, and behind them can be seen male characters Kokonotsu Shikada and To Endo. With its myriad candy lining the shelves, the visual brings about a bit of nostalgia.

The PV is narrated by Ayana Taketatsu, the voice of Hotaru. In it she talks about the story, which begins when Kokonotsu, a boy who doesn’t want to inherit his father’s candy shop, meets a girl named Hotaru who’s crazy about candy. The video is a must see for, of course, being able to see the characters in action for the first time, as well as the carefully drawn background art of the countryside town. You can also spot real brands of candy in the video too including Umaibo. Look forward to the broadcast to find out which other candy will be shown.

Dagashi Kashi is a candy themed comedy by Kotoyama currently serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. The series features candy that every Japanese person has eaten at least once including Umaibo, Young Doughnuts, and Butamen. With its charms including different ways to enjoy eating candy and special recipes, it has gained popularity especially among 20- and 30-somethings.

Directing the TV anime is Shigehito Takayanagi from The World Only God Knows and Tokyo ESP, and Feel is producing.
