The TV anime Garo: Guren no Tsuki (Garo: Crimson Moon) started broadcasting on six channels of the TV Tokyo network on Oct. 9. The series will also air on BS Star Channel and CS Family Gekijo in the future.
To commemorate the broadcast of the show, a huge event painting Shinjuku with Garo was held on Oct. 9. Various projects followed one after another starting from the Shinjuku Station’s East Exit.
The first thing that hit the eyes was a gigantic, 7-meter-tall grid curtain by Masakazu Katsura, the manga artist who designed the main characters, at Shinjuku Station Square at the East Exit of Shinjuku Station, pulling the gazes of people coming and going in Shinjuku.
In addition, a promo video of Garo: Guren no Tsuki was screened on Shinjuku Alta Vision and the electronic billboard at Shinjuku Sanchome. Unveiling a powerful anime video on a big screen really attracted the eyes of passersby.
Also, in commemoration of the start of its broadcast, limited edition newspaper extras were distributed at Shinjuku Station. What’s even more, Garo the Golden Knight himself showed up wrapped in a dazzling gold armor to promote the show, making quite a few people exclaim “Cool!” in admiration. He took photos with the fans, too! There was also an ad track on the move between the the areas of Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Akihabara, promoting the theme song of the new series.
Garo: Guren no Tsuki was brought to life by creator Keita Amemiya, and is the second anime in the Garo series, a live-action drama show with a history of 10 years and a unique fictional world. Instead of being a sequel to its predecessor Garo: The Animation, this show follows an entirely new story. With its wholly different story concept and visuals, it also emanates a different kind of charm from its predecessor.
Main character designs are done by none other than the mangaka Masakazu Katsura, who is not only the creator of popular works such as Zetman but also an old friend of Amemiya. Katsura’s beautiful, enchanting character design adds more color to the world of the series. Sho Aikawa and Toshiki Inoue, who worked on many of the scripts not just in the anime but also in the tokusatsu series, will participate in series composition. Sitting in the director’s chair is animation director Atsushi Wakabayashi, known for his work on the Guin Saga. Similarly to the previous season, animation production stays in the hands of Mappa and Tohoku Shinsha.
