On Sept. 30, production outlines, key visuals, and staff news were released for works to be displayed through the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Young Animator Training Project, Anime Tamago 2016.

Four works are being produced: Colorful Ninja Iromaki, Utopa, Kacchikenee!, and Kaze no Matasaburo. Each work has visuals and a story overflowing with ambition.

What is Anime Tamago?

With promoting Japanese animation as its aim, Anime Tamago is a project through the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs that began in 2011 under the alias “Young Animator Training Project.” The project was given a new name as the continuation of Anime Mirai, the name for Project A which has been well known through 2015.

Each time, four anime production companies are chosen and, in addition to the screening and broadcasting of anime they have worked on, they offer on-the-job training for young, talented people through production work, guarantee an opportunity for young people to publish their work, and do all sorts of lectures and follow-ups.

Below, we introduce details about the four exciting upcoming works for Anime Tamago 2016.

Colorful Ninja Iromaki

The work is by Signal.MD, established in 2014 as a subsidiary of IG Port which includes among others Production I.G, the studio known for the Ghost in the Shell series.

A wonderful new life unfolds for a third-grade elementary school student who just moved to a rural ninja estate with colorful ninja.

Taking on the positions of scriptwriter and director is a member of the comedy duo Rahmens, the multi-talented comedian, actor, and playwright Kentaro Kobayashi. Producer Yoshiki Sakurai has apparently been a fan or his for many years.

Utopa

Utopa is being produced by Studio 4℃, known for anime films like Mind Game and Tekkonkinkreet.

Set on an Earth ruined by war, after hundreds of years of destroying nature and the ecosystem, this is a road adventure film starring children living in a city in the sky separated from the surface.

The director and character designer is Takahiro Tanaka, and Tomoko Hagiwara has been appointed as the producer.

Kacchikenee!

This work is being created by Tezuka Productions, established by the Father of Manga, Osamu Tezuka.

A romantic comedy drawing the connection between the protagonist living in a particular temple, Aiko, and a mysterious man wearing a kimono and sumo wrestler’s apron who says the Edo phrase, “Kacchikenee!”

Fumihiro Yoshimura has been appointed as the director, and Yoshihiro Shimizu is the producer.

Kaze no Matasaburo

This work is by Buemon, a company which focuses on CG. They’ve made several works beginning with Steamboy and Freedom. With fear, softness, and love as its scenery, a short and soft fairytale is painted of children who go to school in the mountains. The director is Yuki Yamada and the producer is Kiyohiko Takayama.
