There’s been little info about the new anime series Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace since it was unveiled at Noitamina’s "Announcement Conference 2015" in November 2014, but now it’s finally getting going. Late night on May 7 it was announced that the anime will be broadcast as part of Fuji TV’s Noitamina block (and elsewhere) from July 2015.
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the death of Japan’s detective fiction master, Edogawa Rampo, an original anime series based on his work is being planned. Some of the biggest hitmakers of recent times, including director Seiji Kishi and scriptwriter Makoto Uezu, are tackling an original TV series - it’s really something to talk about.
Along with the announcement of the broadcast dates, the three main characters were also revealed in the key visual and PV: Kobayashi, Akechi and Hashiba - all young boys. From these three characters, we can surmise that the anime will be fairly different from Edogawa Rampo’s original work. For this production, the various stories being drafted have been shifted to modern times. Edogawa Rampo’s whimsical world view has been restored to the world of today. Information is limited at this stage, but further news about the series, state of production and even messages from the production team will be conveyed on the official website and Twitter feed.
Director Seiji Kishi, scriptwriter Makoto Uezu and animation production studio Lerche have had a series of smash hits one after the other including the TV anime series Assassination Classroom and Danganronpa: The Animation. This time they’re embarking on a challenging project taking these masterpieces from the past and making them into a brand new original TV anime. The series will air in the Noitamina block which has previously broadcast various challenging anime. What sort of anime will Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace be? Keep your eyes open!
