A kimono rental shop called Tokyo Kawaii Musée has opened in the fashion capital of Japan, Harajuku!
On Sept. 11, a shop gaining attention for offering the chance to experience Japanese style opened in the Harajuku landmark, Laforet Harajuku. The shop is Tokyo Kawaii Musée, a kimono rental shop for overseas customers.
Traveling kimono maker Yumi Yamamoto opened the shop in the hopes that many more people would enjoy kimonos. You can pick from over 20 styles of bright, kawaii kimonos designed by Yamamoto to wear and hit the streets of Harajuku in style. Of course, coming empty handed to the store is OK. You can rent everything you’ll need for your kimono outing at the shop, including accessories.
They will even suggest styles that suit a more Western look like a belt to hold the obi up instead of a string, or those that incorporate sneakers or boots. The store’s staff and the online reservation system on the official site are both able to serve customers in English and Chinese. The store even posts news in English to its SNS sites including Facebook and Instagram. For Muslim customers, they also have hijabs in original designs to match the kimonos available for rental, so no need to worry.
In addition, the shop also has a plethora of items on hand that overflow with originality including select accessories and sundries from all over the world with a theme of “kawaii,” creator products, kokeshi dolls you can decorate yourself, and even more.
Those in Japan who want to have the wonderful experience of strolling through Harajuku or Omotesando in a novel, modern kimono should definitely get to Tokyo Kawaii Musée.
