Four members of cast announced, including Rikiya Koyama as Tora; New Visual Released
Sunday Fes 2015 was held at Pacifico Yokohama on March 29. The event focused on Shogakukan’s popular manga magazine.
At the event, the main cast for the previously announced anime adaptation of Ushio and Tora was announced. Four members of the main cast were revealed. Playing main character Ushio Aotsuki is Tasuku Hatanaka, playing Tora is Rikiya Koyama, playing Asako Nakamura is Mikako Komatsu, and playing Mayuko Inoue is Kiyono Yasuno. Hatanaka continues his streak of playing main characters with the role of Ushio, which follows up the role of Yuma Tsukumo in Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal.
Regarding the confirmation of the cast, Hatanaka commented, “Just like the character of Ushio, I will try my best to be able to play him honestly.” Koyama also stated, “Being able to play Tora at this time is surely ‘thanks to the fates.”’ This combination of an up-and-comer with a veteran is just like Ushio and Tora in the series. Look forward to what kind of dialogue they’ll have in the anime to come. “I’m happy to be able to participate in such a legendary series. Asako is similar to me in a number of ways, so I think it will be easy to get into the roll,” said Komatsu. And Yasuno commented, “I want to hold as important Mayuko’s positive qualities and closely perform as her.”
Aside from these four, additional cast members were also announced at the event. These include Ai Kayano, Maaya Sakamoto, Aki Toyosaki, Yuka Nanri, Kana Hanazawa, Keiji Fujiwara, Yui Makino, and Nana Mizuki. Though their roles have yet to be revealed, this wonderful lineup elicited cheers from the audience. This as well seems enough to raise anticipation. The second visual and character artwork has also been revealed, raising hype for the anime even more.
Ushio and Tora is a series by author Kazuhiro Fujita that began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1990. The series concluded in ‘96, and 33 tankobon volumes have been published. Including bunkobon volumes, the series is a popular hit with over 30 million copies in print. Coming 25 years after the publication began, this anime adaptation is making huge waves.
