GA Bunko School Sword Action Series ‘Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry’ Anime Adaptation Greenlit

An anime adaptation has been greenlit for GA Bunko’s (SB Creative) popular series Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry. The anime’s official site and official Twitter have also opened, revealing a teaser visual.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry is a school action series created by author Riku Misora and illustrator Won. The series began in July 2013 and up through volume 6 has been published. The newest installment in the series, Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry: Rei, was released on March 14. A hit manga adaptation by Megumi Soramichi is also currently serialized on Gangan Online (Square Enix).

The story takes place at an Hagun Academy, which trains Mage Knights, warriors who fight with magic weapons formed from their souls. Main character Ikki Kurogane, called the “Failed Knight,” has no skill with magic and is repeating the same grade. However, instead of magic proficiency, Kurogane is extremely gifted in swordfighting. One day, he is challenged to a duel with Stella Vermillion, the number one Mage Knight in Class-A, and he wins. Kurogane, the “uncrowned sword king,” begins gaining attention from fellow knights all over the academy.

In the teaser visual, the series’ main heroine, Stella, is shown. The artwork has a cute touch, with Stella wearing her school uniform and holding a massive sword. From this, it seems extravagant sword battles will unfold in the anime.

The only bit of news announced at this time is that the anime has been greenlit; details on the staff and cast are still unknown. Look forward to a follow-up report to come.

In other news, a special site for the original series has introductions to the story and characters, and the first volume is available to trial read. There is also a bonus page with illustrations, so you can study up on the series’ world.
