Madhouse to Produce ‘My Love Story!!’, Cast Includes Takuya Eguchi, Nobunaga Shimazaki & Megumi Han

My Love Story!!––a shoujo manga with a main character who is 2 meters tall, 120 kilograms, and has a rough, stern face––is getting a TV anime adaptation. The confirmation of the anime came in November 2014, and now at last the staff and cast on this attention-grabbing series have been revealed. On Jan. 13, that main staff and main three cast members were announced, and artwork of the characters were made public. The staff and cast are a perfect lineup, with fans’ expectations being met by each member.

First up, in charge of the animation production is Madhouse who has brought to the world many popular works. Directing is Morio Asaka. Being that Asaka is well known from Cardcaptor Sakura and has a reputation when it comes to anime adaptations of shoujo manga, which include Chihayafuru and Nana, it can likely be said that he is perfect for My Love Story!!. The character designer is Kunihiko Hamada who also worked as a staff member on Chihayafuru and Nana. The series composer is Natsuko Takahashi from Moyasimon and Brothers Conflict. This is indeed a strong staff.

And then there’s what fans are really curious about: the cast. Playing main character Takeo Goda, an intense character who strongly defies the conventions of shoujo manga, is Takuya Eguchi. Eguchi is known for such roles as Hachiman Hikigaya from the second season of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU and Shinji Koganei from Kuroko’s Basketball, but there is no doubt that this is a new challenge for him. Playing Makoto Sunakawa, a cool, suave guy who is Takeo’s childhood friend, is Nobunaga Shimazaki. Because he is popular for his roles as Shinichi Izumi in Parasyte: The Maxim and Haruka Nanase in Free!, he will likely capture the hearts of female fans.

And voicing the heroine Rinko Yamato is Megumi Han. Expect the youthful hope she portrays in characters like Hime from HappinessCharge PreCure! and Gon from Hunter x Hunter.

My Love Story!! is a popular manga serialized in Bessatsu Margaret (Shueisha). To date, Volumes 1-7 have been published and more than 3 million copies are in print. The height of the series’ acclaim can likely be understood through its award-winning history that includes winning Best Shoujo Manga at the 37th Kodansha Manga Awards and winning first place on “This Manga is Amazing! 2013” female chart in addition to its popularity.

The secret to the series’ popularity is that it flips the shoujo manga convention of “hero = stud” on its head. The broadcast has been confirmed to begin in spring 2015 on Nippon TV and other networks.
