Oct. 23 (Wed) has been appointed as the release date for Owarimonogatari, the latest book of novelist Nisio Isin’s popular serial work, the Monogatari series.
Owarimonogatari is the third work in the final season of the Monogatari series, which consists of the already published Tsukimonogatari and Koyomimonogatari. Zokuowarimonogatari is planned to be the last book of the series. This makes Owarimonogatari the second to last work in the series, so there are a lot of expectations. Owarimonogatari is the 15th book overall in the series.
Parts of Owarimonogatari have already been published in Monthly Shonen Magazine, and it was confirmed that the story will go back to when the protagonist Koyomi Araragi, who is in his last year of high school, was a freshman. Although the previous works weren’t in linear order either and the chronological order was also mixed up on numerous occasions, it is hinted that this time, the whole story will take place in the past.
Regarding his latest work, Nisio Isin commented, “Once again, I wrote 100% out of hobby.” This refers to the first work in the series, Bakemonogatari. Separating it in two volumes might also be a hint to Bakemonogatari. All in all, it seems the series will come full circle.
A TV anime adaptation of Nekomonogatari (White), Kabukimonogatari, Otorimonogatari, Onimonogatari, and Koimonogatari, which collectively correspond to the second season of the TV anime series, is currently on-air.
